Mailè O is a tour guide extraordinaire. She exhibited her interest in the subject of Pisa history from the very beginning, tailoring her tour to match our interests. We booked well in advance, and she checked in with us about a week ahead of time, just to confirm our schedule. About an hour ahead, we exchanged photos of ourselves which helped us find each other at the Piazza dei Miracoli. Before we entered any of the sacred spaces, Mailè gave us a wonderful intro to the history of Pisa and the building of the monuments. We were eager to see the Campo Santo above all, and we had a wonderfully informative tour with Mailè, whose background in Art History is extensive. We learned about the frescoes, but also about some of the interesting scientists and thinkers who lived in Pisa, including Galileo. Mailè knew the schedule for the acoustic demo at the Baptistry, which was really interesting - glad we didn't miss it! We also popped into the Duomo. Mailè encouraged us to visit l'Ospedale where the reproduction of the frescoes can be seen (made well before the destruction in WWII). It was a complete and thorough tour! We had said we weren't interested in climbing the Leaning Tower, but one in our group had a change of heart. We did however climb into the Baptistry dome. We were sorry to say goodbye to Mailè at the end of our time together! Thank you for everything! Even tho' it was only 2 hours, it was more than worth it!
