Neuschwanstein Castle is wrapped in mystery and beauty. The dream of the former Wittelsbach king, Ludwig II, the castle is not only gorgeous but the perfect place to explore the mystery of Ludwig's untimely demise, a story filled with mystery and questions. I love telling this tale and start when we exit the Mercedes at the castle and talk until we get back! By the time you get back to the van, you will know why Bavarian's wear Lederhosen, why Neuschwanstein was built, who was Lola Montez, and how Bavaria became a Communist state! Plus, I try and help you figure out how Ludwig II died, 'cause I don't know! Our full-day tour also includes stops at the scenic Oberammergau village, the Ettal Monastery, and a summer rodelbahn for the kids making this an amazing trip that you and your family will soon not forget so join me!
We had the best time on this tour! Jake gave us loads of history on Bavaria, and we were captivated by his stories about the characters that made the region what it is. Jake was accommodating and funny. We really enjoyed the day with him!

We have been on many tours through Tours By Locals, and this tour with Jake is hands down the best thing we have ever done. Jake’s knowledge of the region and its history is staggering. He also has a unique ability to bring the people and places to life through his storytelling. It was so good our teenage daughter was engaged the entire time. We can’t recommend him enough. Jake is such a lovely tour guide and person! We had a wonderful day exploring the castle and the surrounding area with him. My family and I LOVED our tour with Jake! His historical storytelling is incredibly engaging and fun, and kept our entire family (with young daughters and elderly grandma) entertained through a delightful lunch at a brewery, our fun bus ride up to Neuschwanstein Castle, and lovely walk down from the Castle. Jake is so thoughtful, accommodating, and informative, and we cannot wait to come back to learn more about Bavaria with his expert guidance!
