I'm Mohamed, a Cologne native, 60, and father of two. Since 2015, I've guided around 250 tours every year, mostly for English-speaking river-cruise travelers. That experience has taught me what curious visitors from abroad want to discover – and sometimes what they hesitate to ask. Before becoming a guide, I spent almost 20 years working in international sales, an experience that taught me to listen first and understand what matters to people. My promise is simple: I walk you inside. Cologne is much more than its cathedral – it's Roman and medieval, destroyed and rebuilt. I show you the doors, stories, and moments that bring it to life: a sung midday prayer, a family's story in the pavement, and the city's second life after 1945. Committed and factual – and always with time for a Kölsch.

Our walk follows a single story told in stone. It begins at St. Maria im Kapitol, built on the site of Cologne's pagan Capitoline temple. From the old cloister garden we view the church's west front, then step inside to discover the imperial character of this Romanesque gem and study its carved 11th-century wooden doors up close. Next comes Great St. Martin, the landmark of the Old Town. Beneath it, Roman warehouses recall the city where Maternus is recorded as first bishop in 313 AD. At the cathedral, the south side reveals the leap from the fortress of faith to the temple of light: Gothic architecture, born at Saint-Denis, shaped by pilgrimage and relics, and battered but unbroken by the air raids of World War II. Inside, Gerhard Richter's window casts a play of coloured light. The tour ends at the cathedral's main portal.
