Millions of people have heard of Hitler's "Eagle's Nest" in Berchtesgaden. But how many are aware of the magnitude of the Third Reich's takeover and development of the Berchtesgaden area? How many grasp the political, military and historical importance of the region that Hitler termed his "chosen homeland" and described as the "source of his inspiration", his "secret capital" and the place where, according to him, his "greatest decisions" were made? As the author of "Your Complete Guide to Berchtesgaden" and researcher into Third Reich history for decades, I would love to share with you the greater picture and the inside story of the so-called Alpine Fortress of the Berchtesgaden area. Together we can select the places and topics most interesting to you. From the Eagle's Nest, to the charming and historic town center, to a scenic drive in the Berchtesgaden Alps or even the salt mines, a wealth of fascinating sites and majestic sights await you in Berchtesgaden.
- Soon after we meet at Obersalzberg, we shall board the mountain bus for a thrilling drive, followed by a an elevator ride up through the mountain. Once inside the Eagle's Nest, I shall explain the construction and history of this iconic structure and reveal the true reasons for its construction. - After a little free time for refreshments and photos, we take the return bus to our starting point, where we can continue our tour with a stop at the site of Hitler's former home and seat of power. - Together we can select your additional choices, such as one or more of the following: the WWII bunkers and interesting documentation center, Berchtesgaden's charming historic town center or a drive through the scenic Berchtesgaden area, possibly making stops at buildings once associated with the former Third Reich leadership. As a Berchtesgaden guide since 1987, I would love to share with you its history and highlights. - Other possible sights include the historic town center and / or the exciting salt mine.

For the Eagle's Nest we take a special mountain bus and an elevator ride. The per person price for the 2024 season is expected to be EUR 31.90 per person. For other sights I will drive you in a 6-passenger Ford Galaxy van. However the two seats in the far back of the vehicle are somewhat tight and best suited for kids. For this reason I suggest a maximum of four adults on this tour.
Airport: ,Cruise: ,ByGuide: The best meeting place is on the top floor of the restaurant "Berggasthof Obersalzberg" at Salzbergstrassse 43, some 4km outside of the town of Berchtesgaden, Germany. The entrance is marked with the sign Eagle's Nest Historical Tours.
