Originally from the south of England, I am now based in Berchtesgaden, Germany where I provide tours of the area. I offer a diverse range of tours incorporating many sites of interest in the area, although mainly focussing on the WWII related history. I am certified as a specialized guide for Third Reich themed tours by the Munich-Berlin Institute of Contemporary History. Sparked by a two year study of The Third Reich back in England, my speciality is now history intensive tours focusing on Hitler's Obersalzberg, and the Southern Headquarters located on the mountainside during the Third Reich. During the summer months my tour can, of course, also include a visit to the very popular Eagle's Nest. What makes me unique as a guide? - A passion for this history and a thirst for further knowledge has resulted in years of private research; attending seminars from renowned historians, delving into archives, and building a collection of rare period photographs, historical literature, and assorted artefacts. - Numerous meetings with important eye witnesses to hear first hand accounts of their experiences during the regime has given me an assortment of revealing recollections and extraordinary anecdotes. My background gives me a unique insight and extensive knowledge, which I am able to use to provide an authentic account of the fascinating history of this area. If your interest is not quite so history focussed, I can also show you around many of the other attractions in the area, such as the Salt Mines, the Königssee (King's Lake), Berchtesgaden Old Town, the Christmas Markets, etc. I am very flexible and am happy to tailor a tour to suit exactly what you are interested in seeing if you have something particular in mind, or are looking for something slightly different to the set tours that I have on offer. My love of the history and this beautiful area was so great it led me to relocate here from England as there is nowhere I would rather be, and my passion shows in my tours. My aim is to make sure you, as guests, will have the best possible experience here so that you will love the area as much as I do by the time the tour is over! Having lived here for several years, I also have useful knowledge of the local events, traditions, interesting hotspots, etc and can offer advice regarding the amenities here, such as restaurants, shops, and various different locations that may be of interest to you during your visit. The Berchtesgaden area holds so much historical value with regards to World War II. This lengthy private tour is perfect for history buffs wishing to discover the extensive history of this area. . . This full day tour comprehensively covers a multitude of the historically important sites on the Obersalzberg, including the more hidden locations that most tourists never hear about. While there are many tour options that include this area, most will only stop off at the most well known spots. I will also include the secrets hidden on the mountainside which really provide an authentic account of the fascinating history of this area. In addition, the mountain scenery is extremely beautiful and on a clear day you will be surrounded by stunning panoramic views of the Bavarian Alps and the valley below. My qualifications, along with a passion that has led to years of private research, as well as meetings with eye witnesses from the period give me a unique insight and extensive knowledge.
I only wish it were possible to give this tour TEN stars instead of five. We could not have asked for a better, richer, more meaningful experience than what Tom delivered. In a family trip full of highlights, our Berchtesgaden/Eagles Nest tour was the brightest of all. Many thanks!!
Tom L. is a fantastic tour guide! He is extremely knowlegable of all things related to the history of the Third Reich and Berchtesgaden. The tour covered all of the main historical sites but also we covered many of the lesser known or out of the way places. I would higly recommended Tom for a deeper understand of the history and of the area. Tom is a researcher and he defiantly showed his skills during the tour. If you do not want a high level overview, then I suggest Tom. He will provide a very deep and detail understand of the history and the complexity of the era. EG

Tom is an outstanding tour guide and our day with him really made our trip to Berchtesgaden. He has extensive, in-depth knowledge of WWII and shares a range of photos and images throughout the tour, which truly brings things to life. Covering all of the more well-known sites, the tour would also include exploration of the more hidden secret areas, such as (but not limited to): - the ruins of Hitler's former Berghof home, including the opportunity to experience the panoramic views that were once on offer from his very house, - the site of Hitler's former private Tea House, - some original sections of the bunker complex underneath the former National Socialist compound, - the site of Hermann Göring's former home, - Albert Speer's former home, - the former RSD Headquarters, - the abandoned old military hospital, - the former Reich Chancellery, - the former SS officers' housing. From May-October the tour also includes a visit to the famous Eagle's Nest.
