Light, colours, contrasts. . . Arles works like a magnet for artists. In 2024, impressionism celebrates its 150th anniversary ! Experience the moments of happiness or sadness that inspired Vincent Van Gogh in Arles. During this tour, my proposal is to have a walk in the footsteps of Vincent Van Gogh. He arrived in Arles on 20th February 1888. He spent 16 months in this city. Vincent was highly prolific during this period and made numerous paintings and drawings in and around Arles. He developed an expressive, individual painting style characterized by bold colours and dynamic brushstrokes. Arles is where the famous related event of the "cut of the ear" happened. Gauguin returned to Paris soon afterward. Vincent was admitted to the hospital and discharged on January 7th. In late January , he suffered two more attacks and he returned to the hospital for a longer stay. Arles is the place where he painted "starry night", "the sunflowers".
