Welcome to Hong Kong, I am Amy O, originally from the UK, but I have called Hong Kong my home for the last sixteen years. I have had both my children in Hong Kong, emigrating from London, UK in 2010. When I moved, my goal was never to be an outsider in this city, and so I spent the time (trying) to learn the language and all about its history and people. Sharing these insights with overseas guests and being your friend in Hong Kong is what I am most passionate about. Why consider a private tour? Because Hong Kong is at its most magnificent up close and personal! Not only that, with me around, you can ask any question that springs to mind, eat items you may have been reluctant to try, learn how to use the public transport system, adapt the itinerary and to give you the in depth understanding and enjoyable day you're looking for. I always want you to get the most from Hong Kong and so will adapt the tour to suit you. Whether you want to see the famous skyline, ride the tram or Star Ferry, keep the kids entertained, go to the historic neighbourhoods or visit a local Hong Konger in their home, I have the perfect itinerary for you. My most popular tour is the six-hour "Peaks to Piers - a perfect introductory day tour of Hong Kong" for two people, but this is also available for solo travellers and larger groups. I can also provide private transport for the tour, and getting around Hong Kong during the day time is very easy and smooth. I am also one of the only guides who can provide car transportation within the restricted zones of Lantau Island for the Big Buddha and Po Lin Monastery. This tour is "Lantau Island Private Half-Day Tour with Private Transportation". Car tours are certainly good in the hot summer weather and / or if you have any accessibility needs. I can also offer tours on bicycles (in the rural areas like the New Territories), and in a private vehicle. My tours are tailor-made, so if you have any specific wishes, it can absolutely be sorted for you. Over my twelve years as a tour guide, I have been asked for many things… Organising a marriage proposal on Repulse Bay beach at the God of Marriages; hunting for a former RAF base in the New Territories; eating novelty dim sum which vomits(!); to holding snakes and visiting a local in their "average" sized apartment. You name it, we've done it! Have a look at my tours to give you some ideas as well, or direct message me. I love guiding, it's such a lovely job and I am truly energised by the people I meet. Be it families, couples or small groups, I learn something from you every time and always feel like I have found new friends in the far corners of the world. I have been with ToursByLocals since 2013 and have achieved the top rating, I have also been awarded the Certificate of Excellence 6 years in a row and the Traveller's Choice in 2020 (back when Hong Kong was last open for tourism!!). Hopefully you will see this reflected in my reviews as well. Book a tour with me, I look forward to greeting you! 15th year living in Hong Kong and over 10 years as a private guide 5* rating for all Tours by Locals guests, with over 200 tours completed Hosted live on ITV's "This Morning" programme from the Hong Kong Star Ferry Native English speaker born in UK Hong Kong Tourism Board guide for overseas media and guests Tourist Guide Licence TG12131 Travel Agent Licence 354203

A introduction to the real Hong Kong for one person with one of ToursByLocals's top-rated and award winning private guides - I like to give you the perfect slice of Hong Kong and what it has to offer from a non-touristy perspective. If it's your first time in Hong Kong you'll soon be up to speed on the current political situation, the history of the island, how to get around using public transport, eat the like a local, and navigate through a city of 7. 24 million with zero personal space available. We'll visit the some of the major attraction sites and explore some of the most local neighborhoods, revealing their hidden gems and making sure you get the most out of this great city. If you want to explore the Peak on your own, we can delve into more of the side streets to uncover what makes this city tick instead. This is the 8 hour option, I also have 4 hour and 6 hour options available.
Sample Itinerary (we can manipulate the tour to suit your needs): Meet at your hotel and head to Victoria Peak to get the best view of the skyscraper city and Victoria Harbour and return via the Peak Tram (optional). Visit the open air meat and fish markets and take the opportunity to try the delicious local street snacks such as pineapple buns, milk tea and some unusual items (not gross I promise!) Visit a temple of cultural significance and learn how to shape your own destiny. View the famous buildings of the Hong Kong Skyline for an up close account of their history, Fung shui and local nicknames. Local dim sum lunch, the Star Ferry and Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade. Take in the tranquility at the Nan Lian Gardens and Chi Lin Nunnery. However in 8 hours we can cover a great deal of Hong Kong so feel free to make suggestions for the itinerary, I am completely flexible with what we do and where we go.
Tell your guide which places matter to you, skip what doesn't, and tailor the experience for your group's needs. Not finding what you want? Message your guide to build something unique.
We will be taking public transport (MTR, tram and Star Ferry) on the tour and I would therefore suggest that you purchase Octopus cards for your stay in Hong Kong. They cost: $150 HKD per adult ($50 deposit, $100 credit) $70 HKD per child or senior ($50 deposit, $20 credit, an additional $30 is recommended) They are available from any MTR station and are by far the easiest way to get around. I can help you with this should you need.
