Historic Walking Tour of Florianópolis

Walking through the historic center of Florianópolis is an invitation to connect with stories that go far beyond dates and monuments. As a local guide with experience in environmental education and heritage interpretation, I have been leading activities for families in this very area, always aiming to make history accessible, engaging, and alive. This tour blends official facts with popular memory, revealing hidden symbols, Afro-Brazilian and indigenous resistance, colonial transformations and even pirate tales that once haunted the island’s shores. These stories, whether legendary or real, still echo in the names of places and in the imagination of those who walk these streets. The total walking distance we'd cover is of approximately 3 km. Although I'm happy to deliver this tour on any day of the week, note that we will only be able to enter the sites that are open on the day of the visit.

-Our tour begins from Hercílio Luz Bridge, an iconic symbol of Florianópolis, for the perfect starting point and photo opportunity. -From there, we’ll walk to the Largo do Fagundes, a scenic urban green spot. -Next, we'll visit the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary and Saint Benedict, known for its Afro-Brazilian heritage. -Later, we'll visit the Álvaro de Carvalho Theater. -Afterwards, we'll visit the beautiful Metropolitan Cathedral of Florianópolis. -We'll then step into the Palácio Cruz e Sousa, home to the Santa Catarina History Museum. -We’ll continue to Praça XV, famous for its centennial fig tree. -We'll proceed to visit the Museum of Florianópolis, which is right next to the square. -Next, we'll cross the street onto the Miramar Memorial, which celebrates the city’s maritime past. -Our walk continues through Largo da Alfândega and ends at the lively Public Market, where you could taste local flavours and shop for handicrafts.
