Hi there! Welcome to Ghent - the hidden gem of Europe! My name is Arn. I am 33 years old and have been living in the city of Ghent all my life. I have a Master's Degree in political sciences and international relations, and have worked in several different sectors: public policy, IT, and mobility consultancy. A few years ago I discovered my true passion: telling stories. Since then, I've been working as a tour guide in Ghent. In my tours, I try to mix things up a little. Some history, random fun facts, cool legends, and unexpected stories about the city and its citizens. I can also tailor my tours to what you find the most interesting! Do you want to discover Ghent with someone who has lived here for more than three decades? Contact me! Join me on a boat ride of around 1,5h through and around the historical city center of Ghent. From the boat, you'll get the best view on the highlights of Ghent. See the castle of the counts from the water. Sail through the medieval port. Sit back and relax, while I entertain you with stories.
The tour starts just outside of the city center. I can either pick you up at your hotel, or we meet at the dock. After a short safety briefing, we set sail. First we sail to the place where the first port of Ghent was built, on the river Schelde. You'll see the castle Devilstone, home of a medieval knight known as Gerald the Devil. Then we sail over a medieval canal towards the river Lys. You'll learn the legends of how Ghent was founded. Next up is the old Port area: Graslei and Korenlei. Get a front row view on the Three Towers of Ghent. See the old guildhouses and medieval warehouses. Afterwards, we pass by the old Fish Market and the Old Meat market and enter one of the oldest canals of Europe: The Lieve. After a few minutes, you get to see the Castle of the Counts from its most spectacular side. Finally we discover some more off-the-beaten path areas of the city, where you'll see locals spending their day, relaxing by the water. Afterwards we head back to the docks to finish the tour.
