In this tour I show you Ghent in all his glory. The astonishing constructions from the Middle Ages. The industrial heritage of the 19th century (when the writer Alexander Dumas called Ghent "the Manchester of the Inland"). The hidden gems and the secret spots of the city center. The graffiti street and the new constructions of the 21st century. We follow the track of John Quincy Adams when he was in the city to sign the Treaty of Ghent (the end of the war of 1812). We the churches to learn about the Gothic style.
We visit the medieval centre of Ghent with: *His astonishing Belfry (listed as a World Heritage Sites by UNESCO). *We feel the spirituality of Saint Nicholas' Church (13th century), *We walk then through the Graslei and Korenlei piers, *The Great Butchers' Hall, *The Vrijdagmarkt square (linked with the Hundred Years' War between England and France), *De Patershol's cobbled alleys to discover the stunning Gravensteen (a castle from the 12th century). *We visit the interior of Saint Bavo's Cathedral (during opening hours, free entrance), a Gothic gem church with baroque decoration. * The public library * The red light neighborhood * The palace were John Quincy Adams stayed in the city in 1814
