Hello! I’m Wendy, a born and raised Belgian who loves her county! I grew up in a small farmers town in the middle of Flanders. When I was 18, I went to Ghent to study and fell in love with the city. Even though I was first a teacher, it was the love for my country and its heritage that made me change my life completely. I studied art history at the University of Ghent. There I was always more interested in the forgotten and less known stories, so I decided to become a guide. I completed multiple guide courses (yes, I love to study) and it became my job since 2021. Bringing a unique and authentic travel experience, I use storytelling to bring the history to life and since 2025 I teach culture, heritage and storytelling to the future guides in Bruges, Ypres and Ostend. And don’t worry, my tours are NOT a lecture on dates and names. I now live in the coastal town of Raversijde (Ostend), just a few minutes walk from the North Sea. So let me show you around in my lovely country! If you want to see the highlights in cities like Bruges, Ghent, Ypres (WWI), I’m there for you! But why don’t you let me surprise you with the hidden gems in those cities? Or go off the beaten track and discover the medieval town of Dendermonde, coastal cities like Nieuwpoort and Ostend, a museum about a former Romain fortress in Oudenburg… Belgium has been the battlefield of Europe many times in history. There are a lot of memorials, trenches and cemeteries in the Flanders Fields region. Missing soldiers of the First World War are still being discovered till this day… so let us remember them with a personalized tour. Or combine the Belgian Trench of Death (WWI) with the Atlantic Wall in Raversijde (WWII). And don’t forget our Belgian delicacies! On a food tour, you can enjoy the Belgian fries and waffles, drink our rewarded beers, let the chocolates melt in your mouth or even try the more regional treats like jenever, kletskoppen, mustard, cheese, cuberdons… Contact me without obligation if you would like me to make you an even more personalized tour or multiple daytrips off the beaten track. I can speak Flemish (Dutch), English and French. Most of my tours start in Ghent or Bruges, but the pickup location is negotiable. My studies: Professional Bachelor: teaching Mathematics and Science (Arteveldehogeschool, Ghent) Master of Arts: Art History (University of Ghent, Ghent) Cityguide Bruges (CVO Miras, Bruges) Regional Guide West-Flanders (Syntra West, Ypres)

While walking in the medieval heart of the city, we learn more about life here during the medieval times. The Flemish primitive painter Jan Van Eyck himself must have walked in these streets while working on the altarpiece that can be seen in the cathedral. We learn more about his work and flemish primitive painters in general while walking around. Even today we can still see references in the streets and modern artists find inspiration in his masterpieces.
- We start on the Saint-Michiels bridge, where we have some iconic views of the city. - From there we walk along the medieval port that will lead us to the old counts castle. Climbing all the stairs of the medieval castle we can imagine how it must have felt to be Jan Van Eyck chatting here with the duke Philip the Good. - After that, we continue our walk in the city and see how the city changed. I have many stories about the rebellious nature of the citizens and how they managed to survive and thrive. - We visit the Saint Bavo cathedral to stand face to face with the altarpiece by Jan Van Eyck. - After that we walk a little further and discover the many travels and thefts the panels managed to survive. - We end on the same location we started.
