Being the newest member of the Memphis ToursByLocals team it is a pleasure to offer experiences that will introduce you to this fascinating area. By nature I am an historian so the tours I traditionally offer highlight the past of Memphis, its birth and cotton-fueled explosive growth, decimation by yellow fever and resulting resurgence. To quote Southern vernacular, you will be "properly Introduced" to my city, my area, its rich history and its colorful cast of characters. As fascinating as Memphis is, you may also want to experience the West Tennessee Old South homes and antebellum plantation estates of those who lived and built during the "Moonlight and Magnolias" era when cotton was king of the Southern and the American economy. The tours I have selected are designed to be personal and thought provoking. Being a fifth generation Mid-Southerner I have a passion to teach you about our local culture, the how and why we exist as a people, to introduce you to who we are by examining who we were and how we became the city you are visiting. Let me confirm a couple of stereotypes of Southern hospitality and story telling while together we discover the charms of my community. Wherever possible, my tours have some built in flexibility which allows customization around your specific interests. Message me with any questions and interests and I will recommend any changes and additions that will personalize your tour. We had such an enjoyable tour with John. He was so interesting and provided lots of history and lots of Memphis color. We made it to all the sites requested. John was great in scheduling all the stops and provided insider information and tips! It was a great tour and would recommend John!!
This is a wonderful tour. John is extremely knowledgeable and clearly loves Memphis. He is so willing to tailor the tour to show you the places you want to see. And his selection of a restaurant for lunch was amazing - we loved it. We can't recommend John enough!!
My wife and I were on an America Cruise Line and disembarked in Memphis. John met us at the dock, loaded our luggage and gave us an excellent tour of Memphis until it was time to catch our afternoon flight. John suggested a great local restaurant and the food was superb. I think we could have spent a week with John and still not hear all the history of Memphis.
