I am passionate about our beautiful, quirky, historic city and its famous river. I'm a Native Texan and a downtowner for 40 years - come with me to discover surprising secrets, scandalous stories, hidden art, vibrant murals, and handsome architectural details that will enrich your visit to San Antonio. The urban environment rewards those with a keen eye who are curious and appreciate what many never see, tend to overlook, or know very little about - this is the San Antonio you will experience on my satisfyingly real tours. One of my greatest pleasures is sharing San Antonio and enabling others to experience its charming peculiarities from a local perspective. Everyone on my tour receives a list of my recommended places to eat - all locally owned and all places where the real people go. Also, I can adapt and create tours for larger groups via bus or van, if desired. Please join me - I look forward to meeting you. Let me share with you my most favorite murals on this downtown walkabout. Over 25 murals - each a delightful surprise. Some murals are tucked away and frequently overlooked - others are large scale murals spray-painted by local and international graffiti artists. Their exuberant use of color, design, and subject matter have added artistic energy to the city center. Howard Cook's mural painted during the Depression is one of the largest and most beautiful in the federal inventory. And Venezuelan Arturo Herrera's boldly colored, abstract mural overlooking Main Plaza is a pleasure both day and night. Get off the tourist track and join me on this memorable downtown San Antonio experience.
We will begin and end on Alamo Plaza near the SE corner of Houston St. and Alamo St. From Alamo Plaza, we will pass Travis Park on our way to a quiet corner of the River Walk. Then a stop at our colorful Central Library with an opportunity for restroom break. Arriving at Main Plaza brings us to the literal center of the city. From Main Plaza we will return to Alamo Plaza and end our tour. Wear comfortable walking shoes as will travel across multiple surfaces, including stone, concrete, and some slightly uneven surfaces; however, the route is fully accessible for persons that are mobility impaired. Along the way there will be opportunities for refreshments and restroom breaks. This walking tour will last approximately 2. 5 hours.
