Hi, I’m Janae! I’m a Los Angeles-based historian, filmmaker, and founder of A Great Day in South LA, a cultural tour company dedicated to sharing the history, culture, and stories of South Los Angeles. My tours explore the people, neighborhoods, landmarks, architecture, businesses, and cultural movements that have shaped Black Los Angeles. I love connecting the places we see today with the stories that made them significant. With a background in film, storytelling, and historical research, I bring history to life in a way that is engaging, approachable, and connected to the city as it exists today. My goal is for every guest to leave with a deeper understanding of South LA and the important role it has played in the story of Los Angeles.

From there, we’ll travel south through Jefferson Park and the Crenshaw District, discovering large-scale murals and artwork celebrating Black Los Angeles, community leaders, cultural icons, and neighborhood history. We’ll continue through Hyde Park, including public art connected to the legacy of Nipsey Hussle, before heading to Watts to experience some of South LA’s most significant cultural landmarks and public artwork. Next, we’ll travel to Compton to see murals celebrating local history, music, sports, and community pride. During the tour, we’ll stop for a sit-down lunch in South Los Angeles, with plenty of opportunities throughout the day to step out, take photos, and experience the artwork up close. Please note: Specific murals and stops may vary as public artwork changes over time.
