Hi, I’m Janae! I’m a Los Angeles-based historian, filmmaker, and founder of A Great Day in South LA, a cultural tour company dedicated to sharing the history, culture, and stories of South Los Angeles. My tours explore the people, neighborhoods, landmarks, architecture, businesses, and cultural movements that have shaped Black Los Angeles. I love connecting the places we see today with the stories that made them significant. With a background in film, storytelling, and historical research, I bring history to life in a way that is engaging, approachable, and connected to the city as it exists today. My goal is for every guest to leave with a deeper understanding of South LA and the important role it has played in the story of Los Angeles.

This is our classic tour and the perfect way to experience the heart of the Crenshaw District. Known around the world, Crenshaw is a cultural icon filled with history, celebrity homes, street murals, Black-owned businesses, architecture, and landmarks that tell the story of Black Los Angeles. On this tour, we’ll explore Crenshaw Boulevard, Leimert Park Village, Hyde Park, and View Park–Windsor Hills while uncovering the people, places, and moments that helped shape the community. From music, film, and entrepreneurship to civil rights, art, and neighborhood history, you’ll experience the many layers of South LA.
Begin in Leimert Park Village, the cultural heartbeat of South Los Angeles, where we’ll explore Black art, music, community spaces, local businesses, and the neighborhood’s rich cultural history. Continue through Hyde Park to learn about Nipsey Hussle’s lasting impact on Los Angeles, his connection to the Crenshaw community, and the legacy of entrepreneurship and community investment associated with his work. From there, travel through View Park–Windsor Hills, known for its sweeping mansions, hillside views, and long history as one of Los Angeles’ most prominent Black residential communities. Throughout the tour, we’ll also see street murals, historic landmarks, notable homes, and sites connected to the people and stories that have shaped the Crenshaw District.
