Hi, I’m Janae! I’m a Los Angeles-based historian, filmmaker, and founder of A Great Day in South LA, a cultural tour company dedicated to sharing the history, culture, and stories of South Los Angeles. My tours explore the people, neighborhoods, landmarks, architecture, businesses, and cultural movements that have shaped Black Los Angeles. I love connecting the places we see today with the stories that made them significant. With a background in film, storytelling, and historical research, I bring history to life in a way that is engaging, approachable, and connected to the city as it exists today. My goal is for every guest to leave with a deeper understanding of South LA and the important role it has played in the story of Los Angeles.

Overview of your Los Angeles tour

Explore the Westside of South Los Angeles on an immersive journey through Black history, culture, architecture, entertainment, and community. Travel through the Crenshaw District, Leimert Park Village, Hyde Park, View Park–Windsor Hills, and Inglewood while learning how these neighborhoods became centers of Black culture, homeownership, entrepreneurship, and influence in Los Angeles. Along the way, we’ll explore stories of Black Hollywood, see architecturally significant homes and historic neighborhoods, visit cultural landmarks, and experience Inglewood’s transformation through its major stadiums and entertainment venues. We’ll also connect the history of these communities to the people, businesses, and development shaping them today. Lunch from a locally owned South LA establishment is included, making food and entrepreneurship part of the experience.

From there, we’ll travel through Hyde Park and explore the legacy of Nipsey Hussle before driving through View Park–Windsor Hills, known for its beautiful homes, architecture, and history of Black homeownership and generational wealth. Next, we’ll head to Inglewood to see its major stadiums and entertainment venues while discussing the city’s history and transformation.
