Born in 1952, I am a retired teacher of earth science and digital graphics. As of 2019 I have been a resident of Haines for twelve years. I have been a naturalist all of my life, and have enjoyed being a tour guide for over a decade. My passions include photography and local history. Photography encourages me to explore and absorb the environment, see the world from an artistic perspective, and strive to do justice to God's handiwork in the world. Local history helps to put the cultural landscape into a larger relevant context. In my retirement I have chosen to be a local guide for the joy of sharing the beauty and bounty of my neighborhood with visitors and guests. I also enjoy watching people smile, and hopefully making them laugh. Retired teacher, photographer and author with a Masters degree in Education. Local photography tour guide and naturalist for over ten years. Superintendent of Judges in the Photography division of the Southeast Alaska State Fair. Licensed and insured. None

For the discerning visitor to Haines, this tour allows for a complete and relaxed exploration of the historic corners of Haines and the quiet corners of wilderness and State Parks away from the ships and shops. Many of my guests have told me their visit to Haines was indeed the highlight of their Alaskan vacation. The Haines private tour includes sweeping landscapes, glaciers, wildflowers, salmon rivers, and wildlife as wildlife permits. As a private tour, you get to set our pace. Each visited site has a story of historical and cultural interest and I am happy to share the lesser known backstories that will bring modern Haines and its cultural heritage into intriguing perspectives. I have enjoyed offering local tours for over a decade, largely rewarded by seeing the joy and satisfaction I am able to provide my guests. I know the very best spots, the stories that help illuminate the landscape, and how to avoid the crush of crowds who have come to get a glimpse of what you will experience.
Fort Wm. H. Seward: Alaska's first permanent army post. Discover how it came to be established in Haines, as well as its evolution since its decommission. Native heritage: I offer a historical perspective on the interaction between the local Tlingit people and the Anglo people who were invited to settle here and create our town. Chilkat River: Visit the banks of one of our nation's pristine salmon rivers. This is a sweeping landscape that allows us to step back in time to understand how early travelers including John Muir first arrived at this wilderness. Picture Point: The iconic view of Haines and Fort Seward set before the expanse of the Chilkat Range. At the head of the Lynn Canal we will review the natural glacial history and geography of the nation's longest and deepest fjord. State Parks: The five-hour tour allows us to visit both Chilkoot and Chilkat State Parks. Chilkoot offers tremendous wildlife opportunities in late summer. Chilkat offers vistas of glaciers, waterfalls and wildflowers.
