Hi everyone. My name is George. I have been involved in outdoor education, excursions and tours for the past 23 years. My experiences as an instructor with the Outward Bound Schools, as a National Park Ranger, a Ridge Runner for the Appalachian Trail Conference and Outdoor Adventure Guide for the Biltmore Estate, have taught me how to create memorable experiences my guests will remember for the rest of their lives. I love hiking, nature, history and culture and I am passionate about helping others enjoy all that Asheville and Western North Carolina has to offer. I have one of the greatest jobs in the world because I get to spend time with great people just like you and share unique lifetime experiences. Asheviile is surrounded by over 2, 000 acres of federal and state forests with over 250 waterfalls a short drive from downtown. The area also offers scenic drives along the Blue Ridge Parkway with breathtaking views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The City of Asheville has been the tourist destination for over 130 years. Attracting many famous people like F. Scott Fitzgerald, Henry Ford, Thomas Edison and others. George Vanderbilt chose to make Asheville his home. In addition to the unique historical architecture and world class cuisine the city hosts over 200 locally owned art galleries and 60 micro-breweries. Luxurious hotels and B&B's are plentiful for your relaxation. Three years ago my wife, Sue, and I decided to create premium private tours customized to each guests interest. George was an entertaining as well as informative guide. He spent an extra half hour with us showing and explaining an area not on the tour itinerary. Also, one of the sights on the itinerary was closed at the last minute due to weather and he persuaded them to reopen just for us. We highly recommend him.
Our tour was mostly lead by Susan who provided a history of Asheville and it's downtown buildings.. just excellent .. we were very engaged as it provided the insight we were looking for.. great depth of knowledge engaging stil that made us want more.. and that was provided.. George joined us part way through and provided lots of information on certain buildings of special interest.. terrific depth on builder /owner and use of the building.. he was a bit quiet spoken excellent tour..

We will walk thru the Grove Arcade and stop at local shops and galleries so you can talk with other locals. This is an easy walk with plenty of areas to sit and relax. Many of the places we visit will have restroom facilities. We will meet in front of the parking garage located at 100 Otis Avenue, across the street from the Federal Courthouse. Parking rates at the garage are very reasonable. By meeting me downtown you are able to revisit many of the local shops and restaurants on your own after the tour.
