Hello and welcome to the Heart of England region. After a career in fashion manufacturing I qualified as a Blue Badge Tour Guide in 2001. Since then I have specialised in providing personalised, private tours of Birmingham and surrounding region. I love to share my enthusiasm with visitors from UK and abroad. As a 'born and bred Brummie', I have seen many changes to Birmingham over the last 25 years; from a city with a reputation for heavy industry Birmingham has become a highly regarded centre of excellence in all areas of business and culture. A wide variety of restaurants, great shopping, museums and galleries plus numerous local attractions make Birmingham a popular tourist destination with leisure and business visitors alike. Just a forty minute drive from Birmingham city centre are the famous 'Shakespeare Country' towns of Stratford upon Avon and Warwick with the Cotswold hills beyond. Whatever your reason for visiting and however much or little time you have to spare, I would be delighted to tailor a walking and/or driving tour that will help you discover the hidden. . . Heart of England. Hope to see you soon. Our circular walking tour explores Birmingham's historic Jewellery Quarter. At the peak of production in the early 1900s more than 30, 000 people were employed not only in the jewellery trade but also in a diverse range of small metal items known as 'Birmingham Toys'. Despite foreign competition & a fall in demand, 40% of all jewellery made in the UK is still produced here. The area is also home to the world's largest Assay Office, which hallmarks around 12 million items a year, recently moved from its previous location in Newhall Street to state-of-the-art purpose built premises-still with the anchor as its logo. Since the 1980's the historical importance of this area has led to regeneration in retail businesses & urban living & numerous conservation schemes - making it an Anchor Point of the European Route of Industrial Heritage. St Paul's Church - completed in just 2 years (1777 to 1797) lies at the heart of this fascinating district and at the centre of Birmingham's only remaining Georgian square
We begin our tour in Centenary Square at the entrance to the iconic Library of Birmingham. lery in Chamberlain Square and end our walk at the entrance to St Paul's Church in St Paul's Square, the only remaining Georgian square in Birmingham. From here we take a stroll through the streets of this fascinating, historic part of Birmingham, once known as the 'workshop of the world.

Birmingham is quite a hilly city but most of the Jewellery Quarter is fairly flat. Athough the area is paved it is advisable to wear comfortable shoes for this walk.
