Hello and welcome to the Heart of England region. After a career in fashion manufacturing I qualified as a Blue Badge Tour Guide in 2001. Since then I have specialised in providing personalised, private tours of Birmingham and surrounding region. I love to share my enthusiasm with visitors from UK and abroad. As a 'born and bred Brummie', I have seen many changes to Birmingham over the last 25 years; from a city with a reputation for heavy industry Birmingham has become a highly regarded centre of excellence in all areas of business and culture. A wide variety of restaurants, great shopping, museums and galleries plus numerous local attractions make Birmingham a popular tourist destination with leisure and business visitors alike. Just a forty minute drive from Birmingham city centre are the famous 'Shakespeare Country' towns of Stratford upon Avon and Warwick with the Cotswold hills beyond. Whatever your reason for visiting and however much or little time you have to spare, I would be delighted to tailor a walking and/or driving tour that will help you discover the hidden. . . Heart of England. Hope to see you soon. Richard 3rd was killed on 22nd August 1485 at the Battle of Bosworth Field from where his body was taken to be buried in Greyfriar's Abbey in Leicester. After the monasteries were closed down by Henry 8th the abbey fell into ruin and Richard's grave was lost and forgotten under the streets of modern day Leicester. In August 2012 archaeologists uncovered not only the remains of the abbey church but also those of a skeleton with battle wounds and a curved spine! Following months of scientific study it was confirmed that the skeleton did indeed belong to the famous medieval King of England. This amazing story has captured the imagination of people from around the world and our tour will take in sites associated with the last days of Richard including the Bosworth battlefield and the famous 'car park' burial site. And, of course, we visit Richard's final resting place in Leicester Cathedral where he was re-interred in March 2015.
1) Drive by Warwick Castle - childhood home of Richard's wife Anne Neville, daughter of 'Kingmaker' Richard Neville, a major player in the Wars of the Roses. 2) Coventry Guildhall - King Richard stayed in Coventry in June 1485. He is featured in the main tapestry in the Guildhall along with his wife Anne Neville. 3) Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre 4) Leicester City - Richard 111 Visitor Centre. 5) Leicester Cathedral - King Richard was re-interred here in March 2015. Along the way we will explore the journey that Richard is said to have taken to the battlefield that fateful day; the same route that the troops of the victorious Henry Tudor may have followed when bringing Richard's corpse back to Leicester where it was put on display before being buried in the Greyfriars abbey church. Included in the tour is a delicious afternoon tea, which can be taken at a time to suit you at one of the lovely tea shops en route.
