Seven Hanging Valleys Coastal Walk – The Algarve’s Most Scenic Trail

Growing up in the Algarve, I spent my childhood roaming the cliffs, beaches and hidden paths of our coastline. The 7 Hanging Valleys Trail has always been one of my favorite places, not just for its dramatic scenery, but for the sense of freedom and connection to nature it gave me long before I became a guide. This private hiking experience follows Algarve’s most iconic coastal trail, starting at Praia da Marinha, ranked among Europe’s most beautiful beaches, and passing stunning viewpoints over the famous Benagil Cave, and the limestone cliffs that define this coast. The trail is linear and moderate, walked at a relaxed pace with frequent stops for photos, views and quiet moments. This is not about speed, but about experiencing the landscape. Along the way, I’ll share insights into local life, fishing traditions, coastal history and geology, while showing you lesser-known viewpoints. This is a fully private, flexible tour, adapted to your rhythm, led by someone who knows this coastline intimately.

Meeting & Pick-Up We begin with a convenient pick-up from your hotel and drive to Praia da Marinha, where the hike starts. Coastal Cliff Walk – Marinha to Benagil Viewpoints Walking along the clifftops, we enjoy sweeping views over golden limestone cliffs and the Atlantic Ocean. Along the way, we pass scenic viewpoints, coastal vegetation and dramatic rock formations, including a spectacular overlook above the famous Benagil Cave. Praia do Carvalho & Rock Tunnel Access We stop at Praia do Carvalho, reached through a hand-carved tunnel in the rock. This is a great place to pause, enjoy the setting and learn how nature and human history shaped this coastline. Alfanzina Lighthouse Area Continuing west, we reach the Alfanzina Lighthouse area, with open views over sea and cliffs. Time for photos and a light snack or refreshment. End of Hike & Return At the end point, a private taxi (included) takes us back to Praia da Marinha, followed by the return drive to your hotel.
