I am a Private Guide that offers Private tours specialising in the Christchurch and Akaroa area. I have been guiding visitors around the South Island since 1996. This is a remarkably diverse and beautiful island and I consider myself to have the best job in the world! I have travelled a lot myself and genuinely find visitors and their individual stories interesting. My aim is to offer a very personal small group tour which is flexible. . . . . and I hope fun. My most popular tour these days is from cruise ship visitors arriving at Akaroa wanting a Day Excursion to Christchurch and the local area in my 11 seater minibus. . . . . but I also offer tours up to 10 days long all over NZ to Lake Tekapo, Mt Cook, Dunedin, Queenstown, Milford Sound, the West Coast, Abel Tasman or any number of other stunning destinations. My passions are food, cooking, sailing and of course travel. As an ex- teacher I hope I can share with you a bit about the interesting human and natural history as well as the various cultures of this unique land. I am happy to run GEOCACHING TOURS for interested groups. . . . . . . . and have access to 22 / 33 seater buses for larger groups. Passenger Service Licence #0227492 with Private Hire Registration (both SPSL and LPSL), Drivers Licence (1,2,4,6 with Passenger Endorsement), member of the NZ Bus and Coach Assn and ProGuides NZ. Vehicle operates with Certificate of Fitness (renewed every 6 months) and Certificate of Loading (note: this is a legal requirement for tour operations in NZ). Join me on this tour and let's explore the area. I am a "kiwi" who after travelling the world extensively on land and sea chose to settle here over 30 years ago. I am passionate about history, nature and outdoors and this is an excellent area to experience a slice of the real New Zealand. If you are interested in culture and history and in understanding how this city and young country have changed through the years I will take you on a fascinating tour of the central city landmarks, the Port Hills and Lyttelton Harbour. You'll enjoy the views from beautiful locations like the Summit Road, perfect for those photos to take home. We'll stroll together through parks and feel that special NZ nature.
Your Christchurch tour itinerary
Our tour includes Cathedral Square and its damaged neo-Gothic Cathedral, the Original Provincial Chambers, Canterbury Museum, Arts Centre, Christ's College, Botanic Gardens and Hagley Park (third biggest city park in the world). We drive up the Port Hills to the Sign of the Takahe and along the Summit Road with views of the Southern Alps, Canterbury Plains and Lyttelton Harbour. . . you cannot miss the views from 1500 ft/500 m! I will tell you about the history of NZ and the area as we go and give you information about the 2011 earthquake and our plans for the future. We are happy to personalise the tour by adding options such as Mona Vale Homestead and Gardens, Sumner Beach, The International Antarctic Centre, Willowbank Wildlife Park (see a "kiwi"), Air Force World (free entry), short scenic walks etc. We can also pick you up from any location in Christchurch/Lyttelton and can customize your tour for you in case you have any special requests or if you are more than 11 people and need a larger vehicle.

Please be aware to take into account possible waiting time for the shuttle shipside if it is a busy time of day when you leave the ship.
