Overview of your Delft tour

First we'll drive South,( 70 minutes) to : The Unesco World Heritage Site of Kinderdijk, where the splendid collection of 19 watermills have been pumping for 200+ years. Here we will take a boat ride, visit one of the mills, learn about our ongoing battle against water. You can make unique pictures here! Driving back North, we will stop in Delft, birthplace of Vermeer. We'll walk along its quaint canals and huge churches and have lunch on its giant town square and discover the Delft Blue pottery. OR : Not far away is Royal Town The Hague, the actual capital of The Netherlands, which calls itself "City of Piece and Justice". It is an elegant green town near the beach and the seat of the government. We will end the day with a guided tour in the exquisite Mauritshuis, a former city palace, with paintind by Rubens, Rembrandt, Hals, Steen and Vermeer's Girl with a Pearl Earring. Wonderful day with Rene! We so appreciated his knowledge of history and art and his enthusiasm for his country. Highlights were the guided tour of Mauritshuis (he pointed out so many things we would have missed), the boat ride in Kinderdijk (Rene’s commentary really enhanced the ride for us and other passengers) and the Delft factory (again Rene’s guided tour made this extra special). My husband had mobility issues and Rene planned the day to make every stop as easy as possible for him. Highly recommend Rene and this tour!

We very much enjoyed this tour. Rene was very knowledgeable about each of the locations we visited. The Windmills were beautiful and fascinating. It was interesting to see the inside of a windmill, and the canal system in action. Delft was a lovely city to wander around. During the tour of the Royal Delft Factory, we learned about the history and production of this fine pottery. Seeing the skilled artists painting the pottery was amazing. We had the opportunity to see the Panoramic Mesdaag, an amazing 360-degree painting. It is an impressive beach picture that depicts life at that time. We were completely overwhelmed its beauty. A mesmerizing experience. Overall, we had a lot fun, and we learned a lot about Dutch culture. We were even able to sample some herring served in the traditional way with pickles and onions. We highly recommend this tour.
