I am a Private Tour Guide, hailing from the Pearl of Orient, also known as Isle of Prince of Wales, aka Penang. Now name after the Areca nut or Pinang. Where Images of the sun, surf n sea comes into mind. Now based in glittering muddy confluence where 2 rivers - the Klang river and Gombak river met, the landing place of the 88 Chinese tin miners who arrived in 1857, brought in to prospect for tin and upon disembarking from the sampan (small boat in Malay language) they got stuck in the mud! Hence the name Muddy Confluence, aka Kuala Lumpur! Since ancient times. Adventurers and explorers like my great great great grandpa have come, traveling the high sea by Chinese junk to then Malaya, attracted by its diverse natural wealth and embraced by its gentle people. His union with the local lady gives birth to people like me, known as the Peranakan or Strait born Chinese, and also known as Baba (for the man) or Nyonya (for the lady). At home, we speak a type of patois that comprises of Hokkien or Fujian dialect mix with English, Malay language, Dutch, Thai, Arabic, Hindi, Sanskrit, Tamil, Portuguese, Spanish etc etc. . . a crazy mix like our famous Nyonya Cuisine I love to cook and eat, I also design niche tours tailored for my guests thru Makan makan (eating in Malay language) culture and heritage tours, and cooking classes. Student tours are my favorite, it is a path down memory lane where the students learned hands on the kampung or village lifestyle of planting padi and catching catfish in paddy fields and canal, makes kites from scratch and making trumpet from coconut leaf, feast on local fare, clean off the mud in klong or water canal. Sharing my childhood games and past time to students from modern city, the ripple of delights on their faces are worth the effort. Besides local students ranges from kindergarten to University students. My International students are from Singapore, Indonesia, China, Hong Kong, Kazakhstan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan. Oh yes, and even Harvard uni students on practical training, and this year the girl scout from England! I always believes there are so much for students to learn and so much for them to discover outside a four walled class room. Having spend 28 years in the corporate world, I do arrange and organize customize tours for delegates who attend conferences. And also organize events n mice for corporate roadshow, marketing and promotion needs. Come have a date with me, where we can begin our journey thru time. . . . - Freelance Private Tour Guide - licensed by Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (Motac). - Graphic Art/ Accounting/HR by profession (retired) - Teaches traditional Nyonya, Chinese, Malay and Western cuisine, making of 3D Jelly cakes, Nyonya kueh (cakes), pastry and dim sum. - Train Mt Kinabalu Park staff on high mountain rescue, specialize in industrial safety especially working in confine space, single rope access technique. - Running of Agarwood (gaharu) plantation n marketing of agarwood products. Organize and arrange training for plantation staff. I do not drive but hire a licensed tour van or bus and driver to take guests around. For some of the tour,I will use Grab or public transport such as LRT and MRT train ride.
