Hi, I’m Tony Khong, a licensed tourist guide based in Kuala Lumpur. If you enjoy history, stories, and a bit of humour along the way—you’ll fit right in. I believe the best way to understand a place is not just to see it, but to hear the stories behind it (and sometimes the funny ones locals don’t usually tell!). With my background in teaching, I’m used to explaining things clearly and patiently, so you won’t feel overwhelmed. Whether you’re curious about Malaysia’s multicultural roots or just want a simple, enjoyable overview, I can adjust the depth and pace to suit you. I specialise in heritage and history experiences, helping you make sense of Malaysia’s unique mix of cultures—Malay, Chinese, Indian, and colonial influences—all woven into one city. My "tours" are relaxed, flexible, and fully personalised. Think of it less like a “tour” and more like exploring Kuala Lumpur with a knowledgeable local friend who can answer your questions (no matter how many!) Many of my guests are travellers who enjoy learning, asking questions, and exploring at a comfortable pace rather than rushing from place to place. All experiences are conducted in compliance with Malaysian tourism regulations and may be fulfilled in coordination with licensed tour operators where required. For tours that require transportation, we normally use e-hailing GRAB car (UBER) to move us around as and when required on our tour. You will pay directly for the usage. The cost of GRAB is variable depending on time of use and distance. Most guests are surprised at how affordable GRAB is in compared to their home city. However, if you prefer to have a private car, I can also assist you with it by contacting the local transport agents and you will pay for it directly. Cost depends on duration of use as well as the type of car - sedan, SUV, MPV etc.

Enjoy a relaxed and insightful journey to Malacca, where centuries of history, culture, and architecture come together. This private, full-day experience is ideal for travellers who prefer a comfortable pace, clear explanations, and a personalised approach. The journey takes about 2 hours each way. You may choose a private chauffeured vehicle, offering flexible timing and door-to-door convenience. I’d happy to assist in coordinating a car (it would cost about USD180 and paid directly to the driver. Such a sedan would only accommodate 2 guests as the driver and I will make up 4 persons in the sedan. If there are more than 2 guests, we shall need to arrange for a bigger vehicle at slightly higher prices. A comfortable public express bus travel is another option. For guests this option, I will personally accompany you from your Kuala Lumpur hotel to Malacca and back, assisting with transfers and ensuring a smooth, stress-free journey throughout the day. (This option costs about $20 per person).
Absolutly wonderful
My husband, our son and I were extremely impressed with Tony and his deep knowledge of Kuala Lumpur and Melaka’s history. Our day was relaxed and fascinating and Tony went out of his way to accommodate and suggest extra stops which added to our adventure. He has a wonderful sense of humor, too. We look forward to another tour with Tony when we visit Kuala Lumpur again.
Our day trip to Malacca with Tony was the best trip we have experienced with a private tour -- and we travel a lot! From 8:00 am until our return to KL after 10:00 pm, Tony fielded all of our questions, taught us about Malaysia's history, instructed us on Malaysian culture, and shared with us the many historical sites that contribute to Malacca's status as a World UNESCO Heritage site. Tony is personable, informative, knowledgeable and THE GUIDE to have for all tours Malaysia! Book him - he is the BEST.
A wonderful day during which we learned a lot about the history of Malacca and Malaysia. Tony's relaxed style made it a pleasant experience.
This is our 4th tour with Tony. We had such a good time trying out the local food, taking a boat ride and see the Straits Chinese Museum, etc. Tony told us a lot of interesting stories and we felt we know a lot more of Malaysia and it's people. Thank you Tony!
Tour with Tony was very informative and Tony was very knowledgeable on Malaccan history and also Malaysian history. Tony was the best tour leader I have had and I've been on many tours around world. He went above and beyond what was expected and I would certainly use ToursBylocals again.
We shall meet at your hotel lobby/bus station by 7:30 am and enjoy a 2 hour leisure drive (car/express bus) to Melaka. Upon arrival, we will explore Malacca through a carefully paced heritage walk of approximately 4 hours. As a licensed guide and former teacher, I focus on making history engaging and easy to follow—so instead of simply seeing the landmarks, you’ll understand the stories and cultural influences that shaped this historic city. Highlights include the historic Stadthuys, Christ Church, the hilltop ruins of St. Paul's Church, and the iconic A Famosa (Porta de Santiago). We will also visit the Cheng Hoon Teng Temple and the Baba Nyonya Heritage Museum. The River Cruise is an option if weather permits. We shall leave Malacca by 4pm. Estimated arrival at Kuala Lumpur about 6.30pm.
