Hajimemashite - Nice to meet you. I am Shaan and I have been living in Kyoto for 5 years. While living here, I have explored Kyoto’s living history through going to centuries-old shrines and temples, quiet tea houses, vibrant local neighborhoods and scenic spots throughout the city. Kyoto contains so much grace in its ancient streets and gentle landscapes, and I became eager to share this charm with travelers passing through so that people with less time in the city could still connect with its timeless spirit and veiled wonders. From guiding guests through famous landmarks like The Golden Pavilion and Fushimi Inari to introducing them to tucked-away alleyways, local shops, and serine Zen gardens, I aim to offer tours that make the very most of your time here. My goal is to find the perfect balance between seeing as much as possible and preserving the sense of peace that many of these places were built to inspire. The tours I lead have us wandering through ancient temples and shrines, and into museums where carefully preserved artifacts stand as tangible remnants of past eras. We also explore centuries-old markets, where foods once enjoyed by generations past are still savoured today, now served alongside innovative new flavors that reflect Kyoto’s evolving culinary scene. Whether you’re here for the culture, the cuisine, or the calm of a temple stroll, I’d be delighted to show you the Kyoto I’ve come to call home.

Step off the usual path and immerse yourself in Kyoto’s tranquil landscapes and charming lived-in streets. We will start by wandering through the serene grounds of Shimogamo Shrine and the surrounding delta, where people come to relax by the riverside. We will then head north into the mountains to Kurama, a tranquil village known for its spiritual temples. Hike up to Kurama-dera Temple, breathe in the crisp mountain air, and soak in the peaceful atmosphere. Option to reward yourself with a relaxing soak at a local natural hot spring, one of Kyoto's only onsen. Return to the city and make our way to Ichijoji, a northern neighborhood revered by locals as the ramen town. Here, the streets are lined with tiny ramen shops serving steaming bowls of hearty noodles. This tour isn’t about ticking off monuments — it’s about moving at a local pace, enjoying the quiet parts of the city, and savoring the flavors and rituals that make Kyoto a great place to call home.
