Nara day trip from Kyoto

The best parts about Hide’s style are the relaxed pace, a great balance between talking and quietly experiencing, a willingness to discuss all kinds of subjects (religion, politics, crime, travel, schools), and the thoughtful insights he shared at points during our tour. We visited popular attractions which were new to us, and amidst the crowds we could see things at a much deeper level. I hope we can meet up with Hide on a future trip!

Hide was terrific, set up a custom tour for my family including Nara and several shrines, all by train. Travel was easy and Nara is a place not to be missed! Hide never rushed us, allowed us to do all at our own pace, added some hiking for my daughter, and just made for a great trip- I would give 6 stars if they offered it!

This day in Nara beautifully captured the blend of history, nature, and culture. From the sacred deer roaming freely—bowing back and nibbling jeans—to the striking vermilion hues of Kasugataisha Shrine, each moment was vivid and engaging. The peaceful walk among cherry blossoms, paired with Sakura ice cream and a matcha latte, offered a perfect taste of spring in Japan. Tōdai-ji Temple’s sheer scale and the legend of the Buddha’s nostril added a fascinating historical touch, even from outside. Yoshikien Garden was a serene highlight—lush, immaculate, and rich with tradition, especially with insights like the standardized tatami mat sizes. This was a memorable, peaceful, and culturally rich experience.
