Hello :) I’m Nehal, I’ve been calling Kyoto home for almost nine years now. I completed both my undergraduate and master’s degrees here, which provided me with a deeper understanding of Japan’s history, culture, politics, and religion. Currently, I’m completing my Ph.D. in politics, which continues to fuel my passion for exploring Japan’s multifaceted identity. Throughout my academic journey, my love for Japan grew, and it inspired me to become a tour guide. For over three years, I’ve had the privilege of guiding visitors through the beautiful cities of Kyoto, Osaka, and Nara. Each tour allows me to share my knowledge of Japan’s traditions, history, and food, while also showing travelers some of the hidden gems that can only be appreciated through an outsider’s perspective. I’ve met so many amazing people from all over the world, and every tour is an opportunity to connect and share the wonders of Japan with others.

Uncover the layers of Japan's imperial and shogunate legacy on this guided cultural journey through two of Kyoto’s most iconic sites: Nijō Castle and the Kyoto Imperial Palace. We begin at Nijō Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a powerful symbol of Tokugawa shogunate authority. Wander through the opulent corridors of Ninomaru Palace, famous for its “nightingale floors”—designed to chirp and alert guards of any intruders. Marvel at the intricate wall paintings, and step into the gardens that showcase refined Edo-period landscaping. Next, we visit the serene and stately grounds of the Kyoto Imperial Palace, once the residence of Japan’s emperors before the capital moved to Tokyo. As you stroll beneath tall pines and past graceful gates, your guide will illuminate stories of court life, ancient rituals, and Japan’s imperial traditions. Admire the elegant architecture of ceremonial halls and learn how this site remains at the spiritual center of Japan’s cultural identity.
