Hajimemashite - Nice to meet you. I am Shaan and I have been living in Kyoto for 5 years. While living here, I have explored Kyoto’s living history through going to centuries-old shrines and temples, quiet tea houses, vibrant local neighborhoods and scenic spots throughout the city. Kyoto contains so much grace in its ancient streets and gentle landscapes, and I became eager to share this charm with travelers passing through so that people with less time in the city could still connect with its timeless spirit and veiled wonders. From guiding guests through famous landmarks like The Golden Pavilion and Fushimi Inari to introducing them to tucked-away alleyways, local shops, and serine Zen gardens, I aim to offer tours that make the very most of your time here. My goal is to find the perfect balance between seeing as much as possible and preserving the sense of peace that many of these places were built to inspire. The tours I lead have us wandering through ancient temples and shrines, and into museums where carefully preserved artifacts stand as tangible remnants of past eras. We also explore centuries-old markets, where foods once enjoyed by generations past are still savoured today, now served alongside innovative new flavors that reflect Kyoto’s evolving culinary scene. Whether you’re here for the culture, the cuisine, or the calm of a temple stroll, I’d be delighted to show you the Kyoto I’ve come to call home.

Discover Kyoto’s magical nightlife on a guided journey through its most iconic food and oldest culture districts. This tour blends Kyoto’s night-time food, historic neighborhoods, and cultural stories. It is customizable to your taste. Recommended for first nights in Kyoto to contextualize the city, get recommendations from locals for the best places to go and get an experienced tour guides' advice on your itinerary for the next few days!
We begin in Nishiki Market where you’ll sample local favourites. We then wind through backstreets toward Pontocho, one of Kyoto’s most atmospheric night alleys. We cross into the Gion district, home to Kyoto’s famous geisha (known in Kyoto as geiko) and their apprentices, maiko. As we explore Gion’s wooden teahouses and quiet side streets, you’ll learn the history behind geisha culture—how they train, where they perform, and how their traditions continue today. We will visit the illuminated Yasaka Shrine, a shrine older than Kyoto itself. Under soft lantern light, you’ll hear how the shrine’s festivals, gods, and rituals connect to the city’s food, arts, and seasonal traditions. This tour blends Kyoto’s night-time food, historic neighborhoods, and cultural stories. It is customizable to your taste.
