I believe every traveler deserves to experience Kyoto in a way that’s authentic, meaningful, and stress-free. My goal is to make your time here unforgettable; filled with local stories, hidden gems, and the peaceful charm that makes Kyoto so special. I’ve been proud to call Kyoto my home since moving with my family five years ago. Originally I came here to pursue my Master’s degree at Doshisha University, a renown private university in the north side of Kyoto with a campus full of beautiful architecture. I’m now a Ph.D. student at the same university researching culture, governance, and society. Living and studying in Kyoto has allowed me to see the city not just as a visitor, but as someone who truly understands its rhythm, traditions, and people. Before coming to Japan, I worked for nearly seven years in various public service and government roles, where I learned the value of communication, hospitality, and understanding different cultures. Those experiences now help me connect warmly with visitors from around the world.

This is the extended version of my half-day highlights tour, following the same morning itinerary in the western side of Kyoto. The city is large with countless places to explore, especially around its edges, which is why I normally recommend guests focus on either the east or west. With a full day, though, we can comfortably enjoy both sides. We begin in the west, the neighbourhood my family and I have called home for the past few years, only a stone’s throw from the Golden Pavilion (Kinkaku-ji). Along with the main sights you’re hoping to visit, I’d like to take a little time to show you what everyday life looks like once you step away from the busy tourist routes. In the afternoon we continue to the eastern side of the city, where the atmosphere shifts from quiet residential streets to a landscape shaped by Kyoto’s most iconic temples, gardens, and hillside trails. Everyone knows Fushimi Inari Shrine, of course, but perhaps I can guide you to a small hidden path nearby that many visitors miss.
The morning portion of the itinarary covers the same spots as my half-day tour: The Arashiyama Bamboo Forest, Tenryu-ji Temple, the Golden Pavilion (Kinkaku-ji), followed by Kitano Tenmangu Shrine. For the afternoon we then focus on the famous sites of Eastern Kyoto. There are several sites we could potentially cover. For example the Gion Geisha district, Kiyomizu Dera Temple, or Fushimi Inari (thousands of red gates). The itinary lists but an example Example (customisation possible) Start: Hotel pick up Hour 1~2: One or two hours at Arashiyama. Bamboo forest, Tenryu-ji temple, optional activities (bridge, moss temple, preserved street). Hour 3: Arrival at the Golden Pavilion. Explore the gardens (45min approx.). Hour 4: Arrival at Kitano Tenmangu. Explore around the shrine, its majestic walkway and surrounding gardens. Hour 5: Lunch break Hour 6: Nijo Castle Hour 7: A stroll through the Gion neighbourhood. Hour 8: Finish at Fushimi Inari Shrine with its thousands of red gates.
