I'm a documentary journalist who loves history, food, and sharing hidden parts of Japan with others. With me, you'll get a deep dive into the country with someone who speaks fluent Japanese and can explain not only the “whats” and “whens” of what we see, but more importantly, the “why”, and the deep connections between Japan of previous centuries and today’s society. I hold a B.A. in Religious Studies with a focus on Buddhism from the University of Virginia, and an M.A. from the University of Missouri School of Journalism. I am also an ordained lay monk at the UNESCO World Heritage Kinpusenji Temple. I’m a member of the Foreign Correspondents' Club of Japan (FCCJ) and have spent years working with international media outlets, including Japan’s public broadcaster, NHK. I live with my wife and dog in a traditional Japanese home in the mountains of Nara and have years of professional guiding experience. It would be an honor to help you discover the adventure and beauty of Japan.
