Mysteries of Western Kyoto

This tour offers a deep dive into the treasures of western Kyoto. Walking beneath the shade of Kyoto’s most famous bamboo grove and through the Zen gardens of two UNESCO World Heritage temples, you will embark on a journey to understand how Japan emerged as a unified nation and how Kyoto became the heart of Japanese culture. You will also have a close encounter with Japan’s famous monkeys and leave with breathtaking photos. I will bring a professional camera and take photos of you, all included in the tour price.

1. Arashiyama Bamboo Grove This is Kyoto's most famous bamboo grove. We'll take a short stroll here on foot, but option for 30 minute rikshaw ride through the most pristine sections without crowds for additional 10,000 yen per rikshaw (one to two passengers per rikshaw). 2. Tenryuji Zen Garden We'll continue to the 14th-century temple of Tenryu-ji Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage, to explore its beautiful gardens. The garden is designed like a fireworks display, revealing a new side of itself with each season. 3. Lunch Break at local restaurant aligning with your preferences. 4. Japanese Monkeys We'll walk twenty minutes up a hill for a stunning view of the city in the company of Japan's famous monkeys. 5. The Golden Pavilion We’ll finish the day at the Kinkaku-ji temple. This UNESCO World Heritage 14th-century pavilion offers a perfect setting to discuss Japan’s history and cultural development.
