Hajimemashite - Nice to meet you. I am Shaan and I have been living in Kyoto for 5 years. While living here, I have explored Kyoto’s living history through going to centuries-old shrines and temples, quiet tea houses, vibrant local neighborhoods and scenic spots throughout the city. Kyoto contains so much grace in its ancient streets and gentle landscapes, and I became eager to share this charm with travelers passing through so that people with less time in the city could still connect with its timeless spirit and veiled wonders. From guiding guests through famous landmarks like The Golden Pavilion and Fushimi Inari to introducing them to tucked-away alleyways, local shops, and serine Zen gardens, I aim to offer tours that make the very most of your time here. My goal is to find the perfect balance between seeing as much as possible and preserving the sense of peace that many of these places were built to inspire. The tours I lead have us wandering through ancient temples and shrines, and into museums where carefully preserved artifacts stand as tangible remnants of past eras. We also explore centuries-old markets, where foods once enjoyed by generations past are still savoured today, now served alongside innovative new flavors that reflect Kyoto’s evolving culinary scene. Whether you’re here for the culture, the cuisine, or the calm of a temple stroll, I’d be delighted to show you the Kyoto I’ve come to call home.

Higashiyama (directly translating to east mountains) have long been a region where religion, art, and aristocracy flourished side by side. See temples and shrines that are older than Kyoto itself and witness the most famous display of kake-zukuri - a unique Japanese architectural method. Visit one of the most famous sites in Japan and then stroll through neighborhoods once home to nobles of the past and still quietly inhabited by the discreetly powerful today. On Philospohers Path, retrace the steps where the founder of the Kyoto School of philosophy meditated on his way to Kyoto University. The tour ends at Ginkakuji (the Silver Pavillion) which best represents the Higashiyama Culture of the Muromachi period.
