I'm Carlo, an authorized tourist guide for passion. I know Apulia wery well, having studied thoroughly its history, art, tradition, environment and curiosities. I was born in Apulia and always lived here, in a family that always cultivates the study of local history (a hall in the archeological museum of Brindisi is named after my grandfather). I have over ten year of experience as guide. I'm specialized in city tours but I can also make day trip outside the city. I can also customize your tours. Apulia is a charming region that can be visited all year round and is suspended among nature, history, tradition, tastes and spirituality. Apulia offers a wide range of places that testify to the ancient origins of this land: from prehistory to Magna Graecia, from the Imperial Age to the Renaissance and the Baroque splendor. The trulli, for example those of Valle d'Itria, offer an evocative testimony to the rural past of the region. My goal as your guide is to help you fall in love with this region. Please keep in mind that I can plan an itinerary according to your specific needs and wishes and before or after the tour I will be happy to provide you with necessary information and help anytime you need. Come join me and let's explore the amazing Apulia together! - Tourist Guide - qualified in Italian, English and Spanish - "Regione Puglia" Government License. - Law degree

Overview of your Brindisi tour

Lecce, sometimes called the Florence of the South, is the main city on southern Puglia's Salento Peninsula and one of the top places to go in Puglia. Because of the soft limestone that's easy to work, Lecce became the center for the ornate architecture called the Barocco Leccese and the city is filled with Baroque monuments. Brindisi, a beautiful port city, with important evidence of the period of ancient Rome, when Brindisi was nicknamed the Rome of the Adriatic Sea. Also important are the traces of its past during the time of the Crusades and the presence in the city of the Order of the Templars. Lecce is a very elegant city, to which I am very attached for having spent many years during my studies. Brindisi is a city where the presence of the sea gives unique atmospheres and colors. I live exactly halfway between Lecce and Brindisi. They are places that I have always frequented assiduously and to which I am very attached.

We had a wonderful private tour with Carlo Marzano. We wanted a tour to include a visit to the Air Force base in Brindisi. Carlo created a tour which started with a visit at a Brindisi monument which had a great view of the harbor. We then headed to the former Air Force base where he took us around the base going down former roads etc & stopped at the abandoned guard station too. He didn't hesitate to take us where there were no restricted area signs. Carlo then too us to the town of San Vito de Normanni for a walking tour. It was a very cute little town. We proceeded to more sights in the town of Lecce and stopped at a winery coop on the way. He was very attentive to our needs and made sure we were OK with walking. He dropped us off whenever he thought it was too far. Carlo was very punctual and made sure we were back at the port in plenty of time. We would hire Carlo again.

We had a great tour of Lecce with Carlo. He has tremendous passion, knowledge and enthusiasm for his "hometown" as he lives between Brindisi and Lecce. He has lived in the area almost his whole life. If you only have time for one of the two towns, we recommend Lecce. The sights, sounds and environment are rooted in medieval times. The old city inside the walls are incredible and Carlo does an excellent job bringing it to life. HIs passion is authentic, and his easy-going personality makes and creates a truly memorable day.

Carlo was our guide for multiple regions in Puglia spanning several days. He would pick us up in whatever town we were using for base camp and take us out on daily excursions. Wherever we went he was very knowledgeable about the area, and we saw all of the highlights at each location. It was very impressive that Carlo knew so much about ALL of Puglia and it was great to have him with us for our entire time in the region. Carlo's flexibility and knowledge enabled us to change our pre-planned itinerary several times in order to make the most of our time. Unfortunately, we had a family emergency to deal with during our trip and Carlo was very gracious helping with changing travel arrangements and land transportation. If there was a TEN STAR rating to be given, Carlo would get an Eleven! THANKS CARLO!
