In the 1800's there was a large emigration from the Isle of Man to countries such as Canada, Australia and the United States due to extreme poverty and opportunities that were offered in the new worlds. This has resulted in what we call the 'home comers'. People who are returning to find their family roots. This tour is designed for people visiting the Isle of Man for family history and genealogy. This will include the family history with research before your visit, as well as a tour of parts of the island that your family lived in, with visits to churches where they may have been baptised, married or buried. I have an accreditation for genealogy research with Strathclyde University through Future Learn and I am on a list of researchers maintained by the Manx Museum library. As this is a bespoke tour an itinerary will be issued on discussing the family history with the client. The time of the tour will depend on the time the client wishes to start the tour. The tour will last between 7 - 8 hours and in summer this can start later than 9am. We will look at places where your family lived, was baptised, married and buried - as well as the farming methods and if they were involved in smuggling or any other illegal activities
