Würzburg Käppele, Marienberg Fortress & Historical City Center - Half Day Tour

Join me for a 4-mile (6km) hike to explore the remarkable baroque Pilgrimage Church "Käppele" and ascend to Marienberg Fortress, two of our standout landmarks situated on the left bank of the Main river, offering awe-inspiring vistas of Würzburg. The church offers a splendid display of architecture, lavish interior adornments, and a breathtaking panoramic view encompassing Würzburg city, Marienberg Fortress, and the tranquil Main River valley below. As for the fortress, it used to be a castle which served as the seat of power for the prince-bishops for five centuries. I'll be sharing the history behind its former inhabitants as well as unveiling the reasons why it transformed into a defensive edification. I'll also be discussing the varieties of wine cultivated on the Marienberg, which gives the fortress its name. I'm excited to guide you on this thrilling adventure through the Hills of Würzburg!

·After a pick-up from an arranged location, we'll depart to the "Käppele" to begin our hike. ·Once we get there, we'll commence with an exploration of the Pilgrimage Church. ·Following a scenic path alongside the River Main, we'll encounter remnants of the ancient city walls and traverse through the vineyards of Marienberg. ·Our uphill hike will culminate once we arrived at the Marienberg Fortress, from which we'll see Würzburg's historic city centre from above. ·We'll then start going down the hill towards the city centre, which we'll explore next. ·Upon arrival, we'll discover highlights like St. Kilian Cathedral, Falconhouse, St. Mary Chapel, Old City Hall, and the Old Main Bridge. ·As a delightful conclusion to our journey, a quintessential Franconian surprise awaits you at the Old Main Bridge. Please be aware that we will walk around 500 steps on stairs, mostly descending, during our hike.
