Hi, I am Sabine and welcome to my city! That's me, a tour guide who has been working mainly in Jena and Weimar for more than ten years now. It is the area where I grew up while always having a strong interest in history, English and French languages. However, due to several circumstances I studied civil engineering in the first place. My early wish became true after the reunification of Germany with a training to become a foreign languages correspondent combined with a few months working and living in Great Britain. Back in my hometown Jena I finally got the license to work as a tour guide. Since that time I have continuously discovered something new in the history of Jena, Weimar and Erfurt. Amongst my guests, there has been the Canadian ophthalmologist, who had worked for all his professional life with instruments made by the Jena founded Zeiss company. Also a traveler from the US who had followed the footsteps of Napoléon and his battles and wanted to see the battlefields of 1806, a journalist from Belgium who wrote about BAUHAUS architecture and a professor from Japan whose field of research was Classicism and Romanticism. He wanted to see the places where those two epochs once started - to mention some of them. With each of those guests I became a little bit prouder to do this beautiful job in this particular area. I look forward welcoming you one day. Best regards! Sabine - Certificate "Tour Guide of Jena". - Audited foreign language correspondent. - Certified According to DIN EN 15565. - Church certificate "Lutherfinder". I am not a driver. I can accompany you in your vehicle or I can arrange for a separate car and driver.

Saint Boniface requested the Pope to change the little pagan village "Erphesfurt" into a diocese already in 742. No wonder that the silhouette of many churches dominates Erfurt today. Parts of the Cathedral of St. Mary, and the Church of St. Severnus nearby date back to this time. Today they are the landmark of Erfurt beside the Merchants' Bridge, where on both sides you will be seduced by small houses with little shops selling handcrafted items. The bridge was part of Via Regia, a long-established trade route in the Middle Ages. No less a person than Martin Luther, famous reformer of Christianity, studied in Erfurt and joined the Augustinians there. Be astonished about my discription of his day while looking at some beautifully restored medieval buildings. As the name Erfurt suggested, the River Gera has always played an important role in facilitating trade. Today Erfurt is well known for its horticulture and played host to the National Garden Show 2021. Enjoy the colourfulness with me!
You will see: -Cathedral Square with its beautiful silhouette of the Cathedral and the Church St. Severus -a glimpse into the Cathedral St. Marien zu Erfurt and the Church -long bridge -State Chancellery (former and current government building) -Ruins of the former Franciscan Monastery's Church (place for concerts today) -Dominican (Preacher's) Church -House zum Sonneborn -Old Synagogue (oldest in Europe) -St. Michael's Church with its beautiful back yard -Old university (building from 1392) -Augustinian Monastery, where Martin Luther lived as a monk -Merchants' Bridge with its small houses and little shops -Fischmarkt, (Fishmarket) with the town hall and beautiful houses
