Hi, I am Sabine and welcome to my city! That's me, a tour guide who has been working mainly in Jena and Weimar for more than ten years now. It is the area where I grew up while always having a strong interest in history, English and French languages. However, due to several circumstances I studied civil engineering in the first place. My early wish became true after the reunification of Germany with a training to become a foreign languages correspondent combined with a few months working and living in Great Britain. Back in my hometown Jena I finally got the license to work as a tour guide. Since that time I have continuously discovered something new in the history of Jena, Weimar and Erfurt. Amongst my guests, there has been the Canadian ophthalmologist, who had worked for all his professional life with instruments made by the Jena founded Zeiss company. Also a traveler from the US who had followed the footsteps of Napoléon and his battles and wanted to see the battlefields of 1806, a journalist from Belgium who wrote about BAUHAUS architecture and a professor from Japan whose field of research was Classicism and Romanticism. He wanted to see the places where those two epochs once started - to mention some of them. With each of those guests I became a little bit prouder to do this beautiful job in this particular area. I look forward welcoming you one day. Best regards! Sabine - Certificate "Tour Guide of Jena". - Audited foreign language correspondent. - Certified According to DIN EN 15565. - Church certificate "Lutherfinder". I am not a driver. I can accompany you in your vehicle or I can arrange for a separate car and driver.

Bauhaus Architecture should be solid, cheap and of course beautiful. Decide for yourself while looking at two out of only six residential buildings in Germany, designed in the office of Walter Gropius. The House "Auerbach" was already built in 1924 and the House "Zuckerkandel" five years later. Follow the traces of his students and companions in Jena with me! Especially the ideas of Ernst Neufert, the writer of the "Architects' Data" and one of the first students at the "Staatliche BAUHAUS" in Weimar, deserve it to learn about. The simplicity of this architecture was ground-breaking at its time but today some people prefer the period of change before. You will see a masterpiece of this change, the Ernst-Abbe-Memorial designed by Henry van de Velde, at the end of the tour. I look forward seeing you astonished!
You will see: - Gerhard Marck's Statue of Albertus Magnus - The planetarium and it's design by Adolf Meyer (most important architect in the Gropius office) - The little house, where Kandinsky, Feininger and Schlemmer spoke and displayed their art - The Student's House, masterpiece of Ernst Neufert and Otto Bartning - The ABBEANUM from 1930, built for the institutions of mathematics and optics at Jena university - House "Zuckerkandl", a private home - House "Auerbach", the second private home - Ernst-Abbe-Memorial from 1911, designed by Henry van de Velde - Germany's first high rise building from 1915, designed by Friedrich Pützer - The viewing area of the JenTower, where I will show you the BAUHAUS-design of Jena's theatre from 1922. (Unfortunately, it does not exist anymore but I am sure you can imagine it to the still existing stage house with the help of a photo. Of couse, you will enjoy the beautiful view around.
