HERZLICH WILLKOMMEN IN DRESDEN! I am a fully licensed local guide, also allowed to guide in all museums, gardens, national parks and castles as well as some churches in Dresden and Saxony - Frauenkirche church in particular - and an official member of "Tourismusverband Dresden e. V. " and our German national "Bundesverband der Gästeführer in Deutschland e. V. ". As president of "IG Guides Dresden-Elbland" I share my expertise with six very passionate fellow-guides. I also guide in whole East Germany: Colditz, Bautzen, Gorlitz, Wittenberg, Weimar, Naumburg, and e. g. thematic Luther-Bach-Goethe tours. I graduated from university with diploma in History, Anglistics and Germanistics. However, I am well known as a humorous tourist guide from whose rich knowledge of local events in the present and past and lots of historical anecdotes you will be impressed and never bored! You will learn as much about "History" as about "Herstory" and what "Anglo-Saxon" and "Dollar" has to do with Saxony. Curious? Soon you will get the answer! I would be glad to guide you on compact city tours, day trips, 3-day excursions or even as a tour operator - accompanying your tour completely. Dresden, the splendid residential baroque capital of Saxony, is exactly on the axe Berlin-Prague, heart of Central Europe. You can book me as a guide commenting the way between these two cities. Nazi History, Communist Epoch, Peaceful Revolution - thrilling information on the way. Please read my DRESDEN BLOG (www.toursbylocals.com/blog, then choose "THE DRESDEN MIRACLE") to get the flavour of my great city! - University diploma in History, Anglistics, Germanistics - Special guide licenses in most museums, palaces, churches, gardens and national parks. - "Be a Better Guide" training - President of IG Guides Dresden-Elbeland - Member of Germany's national tourist guide association "Bundesverband der Gästeführer in Deutschland e.V." and "Tourismusverband Dresden e.V." I am not licensed to drive paying customers, but I can hire a licensed driver if requested by the customer. prices on demand.

Overview of your Leipzig tour

Discover Leipzig with me! The booming merchant, music, and book city with its famous trade fair since 1497 - a European platform for the exchange of exotic and newly invented products. Have a cup of coffee in medieval "Auerbachs Keller" where Dr. Faustus sold his soul to Mephisto! With pleasure I will show you my favourite restaurants. For music friends: J. S. Bach himself lived and worked in this wonderful city most of his life - as well as Mendelssohn! Wagner and Clara Schumann are born in Leipzig, Handel, Telemann, Schutz are born nearby. Here you are in MUSIC LAND! Today Leipzig has a modern, nearly youthful appearance with a lot of historic buildings. You will see Thomas Church, the Renaissance City Hall, Nicolai Church (the origin of the "Peaceful Revolution" which finally lead to German Reunification in 1989), Renaissance Boerse, and splendid museums. Please note: Church visits depend on opening times. I love music! Please let me know if you like to visit a concert.

We had a lovely time discussing the history of the city, the way the streets and shops are set up, and especially the rich musical heritage of Leipzig. Silvia has a gift for customizing the discussion and to the interests of the group.

I loved my tour of Leipzig with Silvia. She showed me how each place we visited played a role in history, whether recent history or the last century, and about the experience of the people of eastern Germany through that time and until today. Silvia is a kind, interesting person who shares her knowledge and her insights with generosity, and in my case in fluent English. I was very glad to have met her and spent time with her. I am inspired to return to Leipzig and to visit Dresden as well.

Silvia did a wonderful job taking us around central Leipzig and bringing to life the Jewish history as well as the post-war Soviet era and subsequent reunification. She was informative, warm and made the history personal. I would recommend her tour without hesitation.

Silva did a great job setting up a custom JS Bach tour. In Naumburg, we got to hear a recital on Bach's favorite organ at the St. Wenzelskirche and see the famous life-sized sculptures of the founders of the nearby Naumburg Cathedral. Back in Leipzig, I left my hat in the church after attending a concert by the famous St. Thomas Boys Choir. Silvia was very tenacious in tracking it down, going so far as going over to the senior pastor's apartment to retrieve it. Thank you Silvia for going the extra mile!

Our two hour tour of Leipzig with Silvia was just what we were looking for, and we capped it off with a beautiful service of music at the Thomaskirche following a delicious lunch at Auerbachs Keller, one of the oldest in the city that gained its worldwide reputation thanks to Johann Wolfgang Goethe. Silvia took us to selected locales throughout the old town, quaint alleyways and a memorable view of the city from far above, and introduced us to the beauty of its literature, music and art. A must see city.

Excellent guide. Very knowledgeable and personable. Fabulous city tour. Highly recommended. Took us to out of the way places we would not have found on our own.
