Few people know that the end of WW2 was first signed in Reims, in a red brick school which was then the headquarters of the SHAEF. Signature took place in the Maps’ Room, which was preserved in the exact same state. Discover all this and more during my guided tour while exploring the center of the city, where WW1 shaped the urban landscape. We will of course visit the cathedral, restored after the 1st World War, and site of coronation for all French kings. We will also explore the city center where Art Nouveau and Art Deco architecture blend, including the Library Carnegie (the only Carnegie library in France). Reims discovery cannot be complete without a tour of one of the celebrated champagne houses, some listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site (tasting at the end of visit) NB : museum of surrender is closed on Tuesdays
Order of visits may vary according to our meeting point in the morning/champagne cellar availability. We will walk and use public transportation (easy walk and short rides with bus or tramway) If your hotel is in Reims, we can start the tour at 9:00 am, and a bit later if you are based in Paris. I will give you an introduction to the history of the city and we will start the tour with the visit of the Museum of Surrender After exploring the city center and the cathedral, you will have some time for lunch on your own in the center of Reims (I remain at your disposal for recommendations, note that some restaurants need to be booked a few days in advance), we will make our way to one of the famous Reims champagne houses. In their underground galleries (some of them Gallo-Roman chalkpits), you will learn more about champagne making. The visit of the cellar includes a tasting * This tour can be customized upon request, please contact me.
