Since I was a child I was merged in the history as my grandfather was during the Second World War part of the French resistance and helped Allied pilots who crashed with their airplane to escape France by Spain. After the war my grandfather will receive a personal letter from General Dwight Eisenhower thanks him for his action. My knowledge in the First and Second World Wars were recognized by the US Army where I was in charge to organize Staff Rides and ceremonies for them. I am also a local historian consultant and participated in several TV documentaries and my name is also mentioned in several books by other historians. Overview of your Amiens tour

The Battle of the Somme which started on the 1st of July, 1916 was one of the bloodiest in the history of the British Empire with losses of about 20, 000 deaths at the end of the day. It took until November 1916 where finally Germans retreated. On this tour I will offer you to discover this battle by visiting major sites where many countries from the Commonwealth were engaged as Beaumont Hamel trenches, Thiepval, The Lochnagar Crater marking the beginning of the offensive, the village of Pozieres and many other places. . . . . British signaller Harry Wheeler wrote: "The firing was going on for weeks beforehand, on and off, and getting heavier. But the bombardment, when that started, it was what I always called the dance of hell. It was Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Shells bursting all the time, you know, guns firing, rather, all the time. It was a dance of hell, right enough. Those poor boys who had to go through it! My God, I shall never get it out of my memory. Yes, the dance of hell!

Won wonderful tour for a very vocative site. Frederic and his wife showed us a number of locations and provide provided detail explanation of what occurred in each site and placed it within the overall battle. Frederic is a great guide with his strong background in military history.

I highly recommend booking this tour if you have any interest at all in the World War One. The Somme battlefield is massive and Frederic was an amazing guide. He came with photos and maps and knew so many personal stories and was able to truly communicate the horrors of this war. We left with a profound appreciation for the sacrifice of the soldiers.

We learned so much more than we expected, and we gained a sense of how the battle unfolded. Frederick was extremely knowledgeable, spoke great English, and was very nice. An all-round delight!
