Overview of your Prague tour
Everyone should visit this tragic symbol and realistic memorial of Holocaust. Was founded as a fortress by the Emperor Josef II. in 18th century and named after his mother Maria Theresa, supposed to be used for defence, it paradoxically became infamous first of all as a political prison. Gavrilo Principe who assasinated the archduke Franz Ferdinand d' Este died here . Then later during World War Two as a Jewish ghetto and Nazi concentration camp. This was not an extermination camp but a transit camp where people died from neglect or cruel treatment. The barracks still have the original beds and furniture.
