Hi! I am Lenka, and I would like to invite you to my charming city of Prague. Just as Franz Kafka characterized his relationship to the city, I find Prague an impossible place to leave. With just one visit, you also will develop a love affair with this city! I was born in Prague and have lived here my entire life. For almost three decades, I have led as a licensed guide group and individual tours, and I have experience in event planning. I received a degree in civil engineering, and I worked in the field of historic preservation in Prague and Berlin. My clients benefit from my detailed knowledge of buildings, architectural styles, and renovation methods. I enjoy touring various countries in Europe, and I have visited the Middle East and Central Asia. I frequently travel to the United States, where I have visited nearly every state and many major cities. My hobbies are literature, architecture, history, and art. Prague has captivated me since my youth. Even in places I have walked a hundred times, I find something new and beautiful-a minor architectural detail I have overlooked or the play of light and shadows on even the most common buildings. That is the Prague I want to share with you. It is best for visitors to experience these sorts of beautiful yet hidden details during private tour. There is more to this city and this country than castles, buildings, and amazing vistas. I want to convey to you something about life in Prague and how it has changed over the centuries. Since I spent my childhood and my university years in Prague during the communist era, we can discuss life in the 1970s and 1980s in Czechoslovakia, including examples from my personal family history. Let me show you-in person-the picturesque mixture of Prague's architectural styles. Together, we can explore hidden streets, courtyards, and gardens, in addition to the well-known highlights of the city. You also will learn some legends and humorous stories about the city, drink a beer in a good pub, or have coffee and cake in an Art Nouveau café. Although tour groups we encounter may be rushing to see the next attraction on their guide's list, we will enjoy a tour of Prague or of a different Czech town or city at a comfortable pace. Historical Prague contains several medieval towns. As we begin our stroll through just one of them, the memorable combination of colors and curves will enchant you. Prague will reveal to you its houses and churches that have been part of the historical record for ten centuries, something which is rare in a modern city. I will help make Golden Prague-the City of a Thousand Spires-your town. Although the best way to get to know Prague is to walk for hours in good shoes, the city has a very efficient and reliable public transport system that we can use on occasion. If you have little time or if long walks are too taxing, I can arrange a minivan to move us quickly from one interesting location to another. The Czech Republic is one large open-air museum. The landscape changes quickly, and after only a few miles, you encounter yet another castle, one more town and its medieval square, or an additional quaint village with a Baroque church. If you visit a hundred fascinating Czech sites, there are a hundred more waiting to be discovered. If you wish, I can accompany you to a small historical town in the Czech Republic, such as Kutná Hora, the location of Bohemia's medieval silver mines, the fairytale Renaissance town of Český Krumlov, or the former Jewish ghetto and concentration camp at Terezín (Theresienstadt). Perhaps you wish to travel by a hired minivan to one of the Czech Republic's famous castles-there are hundreds from which to choose. Every visitor has a different set of interests, and every tour can be special. We can discuss your wishes and preferences, and I can prepare a custom tour for you. I am deeply engaged in Prague and its history, and I look forward to sharing the city's secrets with you as your private guide. Yours, Lenka -Guiding License for Prague -Master's Degree in Civil Engineering -Guiding License for Jewish Museum in Prague -Guiding License for Prague Castle -Guiding License for the National Gallery I am not a driver. Let us visit Terezín (Theresienstadt). A Baroque fortress encloses the town, and during World War II, the Nazis evicted its inhabitants and converted it into a concentration camp and ghetto for Jewish prisoners from Czechoslovakia and elsewhere. Museums in several buildings tell about the prisoners' unbearable living conditions and sufferings. Some were ordinary men, women, and children, but among the inmates were dozens of talented artists. Those who survived several months in Terezín faced transport to an extermination camp, where they ended their lives in gas chambers. We will explore living quarters, drawings, personal items, pictures, and fragments from the memories of the few survivors. There will be time to visit Terezín's Small Fortress, a place of suffering and execution of political prisoners. The drive from Prague to Terezín is about one hour. Our air-conditioned minivan will take us to both fortresses and other parts of the museum. Upon your request, I am available to customize this tour.
