It is known as the starting point of the world famous "Silk Road" and reputed as one of the "Four Ancient Capitals of the World", together with Rome, Athens and Byzantine. There were 13 dynasties had their capitals established in Xi'an with a time duration of over 1, 100 years. The splendid and glorious dynastic period had long gone with the vanishing of the Great Tang dynasty, but a considerable amount of ancient monuments from the former Chang'an city have survived in the modern city. Like the best preserved city wall of Xi'an, the Bell & Drum Tower, the Big Wild Goose Pagoda and the well known Great Mosque. It is still a city with compelling beauty and history. People always say in China "If you want to know something about a 3, 000 years old China, you should make a trip to Xi'an. Want to know something about 600 year old China, you should go to Beijing, and a 100 years China, Shanghai. " This shows how important Xi'an is as a tourist destination. As a guide mostly based in Xi'an, I do almost all kinds of tours.
