Dear friends, I’m Michael Chang—your English-speaking guide in Xi’an, and a storyteller at heart. For over a decade, I’ve been walking this ancient land with travelers from all over the world, and before settling here, I worked as a national guide, crisscrossing China with tour groups. That journey taught me one thing clearly: every traveler is different, but what everyone truly wants is to feel the soul of a place, not just see its sights. Now, I call Xi’an my full-time home base, and honestly? After all those years on the road, this city still steals my heart every single day. I know what many first‑timers imagine—a small, sleepy town, perhaps just the home of the Terracotta Warriors. But Xi’an is anything but small. Today, it’s one of China’s newest national central cities, a vibrant, modern metropolis that still wears its ancient glory with pride. This is where the Silk Road began. This is one of the “Four Great Ancient Capitals of the World,” standing alongside Rome, Athens, and Constantinople. For over 1,100 years, thirteen dynasties made this their throne room. The Tang Dynasty’s golden days may have faded, but they left behind treasures that still breathe: the most complete city wall in China, the melodic Bell and Drum Towers, the serene Big Wild Goose Pagoda, and the astonishing Great Mosque—a quiet testament to centuries of cultural fusion. As we Chinese like to say: “Visit Xi’an to touch 3,000 years of China, Beijing for 600, and Shanghai for 100.” That tells you why Xi’an isn’t just a stop—it’s a pilgrimage. And me? I do it all. Private car tours with professional drivers (I’m not a driver myself, but I’ll arrange the best wheels for your group), early‑morning food hunts by foot or metro, lazy evening strolls through night markets, or deep‑dive walking tours that reveal hidden alleyways most tourists miss. My goal is never to just “show you around”—it’s to make you feel like a local for a day (or two). I’ll take you to the noodle shop where the chef still pulls dough by hand, or the tea stall where the owner remembers every regular’s name. Those are the moments I live for. I’m a fully licensed guide with the Shaanxi Tourism Association—proud of my credentials, but prouder still of the friendships I’ve made along the way. So if you’re ready to wander, eat, laugh, and fall in love with this ancient‑modern mosaic of a city, come find me. Let’s walk its streets together, and I promise you’ll leave with more than photos—you’ll leave with stories. Welcome to Xi’an. I can’t wait to meet you. — Michael
