Dear friends, I’m Michael Chang—your English-speaking guide in Xi’an, and a storyteller at heart. For over a decade, I’ve been walking this ancient land with travelers from all over the world, and before settling here, I worked as a national guide, crisscrossing China with tour groups. That journey taught me one thing clearly: every traveler is different, but what everyone truly wants is to feel the soul of a place, not just see its sights. Now, I call Xi’an my full-time home base, and honestly? After all those years on the road, this city still steals my heart every single day. I know what many first‑timers imagine—a small, sleepy town, perhaps just the home of the Terracotta Warriors. But Xi’an is anything but small. Today, it’s one of China’s newest national central cities, a vibrant, modern metropolis that still wears its ancient glory with pride. This is where the Silk Road began. This is one of the “Four Great Ancient Capitals of the World,” standing alongside Rome, Athens, and Constantinople. For over 1,100 years, thirteen dynasties made this their throne room. The Tang Dynasty’s golden days may have faded, but they left behind treasures that still breathe: the most complete city wall in China, the melodic Bell and Drum Towers, the serene Big Wild Goose Pagoda, and the astonishing Great Mosque—a quiet testament to centuries of cultural fusion. As we Chinese like to say: “Visit Xi’an to touch 3,000 years of China, Beijing for 600, and Shanghai for 100.” That tells you why Xi’an isn’t just a stop—it’s a pilgrimage. And me? I do it all. Private car tours with professional drivers (I’m not a driver myself, but I’ll arrange the best wheels for your group), early‑morning food hunts by foot or metro, lazy evening strolls through night markets, or deep‑dive walking tours that reveal hidden alleyways most tourists miss. My goal is never to just “show you around”—it’s to make you feel like a local for a day (or two). I’ll take you to the noodle shop where the chef still pulls dough by hand, or the tea stall where the owner remembers every regular’s name. Those are the moments I live for. I’m a fully licensed guide with the Shaanxi Tourism Association—proud of my credentials, but prouder still of the friendships I’ve made along the way. So if you’re ready to wander, eat, laugh, and fall in love with this ancient‑modern mosaic of a city, come find me. Let’s walk its streets together, and I promise you’ll leave with more than photos—you’ll leave with stories. Welcome to Xi’an. I can’t wait to meet you. — Michael

Lingtao was a great tour for our trip to the Terracotta Army. He was knowledgeable and was able to give us a lot of background and historical information to allow us to fully appreciate the artifacts on display. Lingtao was friendly, spoke great English and was patient with our family group of 8. Highly recommend if you want to learn all about the Terracotta army!

Michael is the best guide one can imagine. Knowledgeable of Xi'an, especially all related to the terracotta army, attentive and super friendly, but also willing to help you if you are facing trouble. Michael's tour is engaging, fun and gives you a chance to really appreciate Chinese history. There is no-one better to show you the beauty of Xi'an than him.

The visit to the Terracotta Warriors with Michael was a joy. We traveled by public transport which gave me an opportunity to see other parts of Xi'an, and Michael used the time to explain about the history of Xi'an and China, . Throughout the tour, he guided me to avoid the crowd which was helpful. After that we lunched at a local, non-touristy eatery nearby. The food was great. But I was more intrigued to get a glimpse into the lives of the locals. Overall, a great experience so TQ so much, Michael!

Lingtao provided an excellent guided tour for us of the Terracotta Warriors. He arrived at 7:00 am to pick us up and got us to the site at 8:30am as the site was opening to give us the least crowded experience. This experience was worth every second as Lingtao gives you the right balance of explanation and time to explore the site on your own. I would highly recommend this guided tour to all that want an effective tour of one of the most visited places in China.

Michael's tour was excellent. He was full of fascinating information about the Warriors and was great at helping us avoid the crowds and get into good spots to take photos. He also gave us some wonderful suggestions of places to eat and other things to do in Xi'an. He made Xi'an a true highlight of our trip to China.

Your Xian tour itinerary

I will personally meet you at 7:00 am / 8:00 am at your centrally-located hotel lobby at the tour day. We will go to Xi'an Rail Station with a bus or taxi and then take shuttle bus to the Terracotta Army and Horses Museum. This journey will last about 50 mins, during when I will preview you about the background history of the site. By the time we arrive, you will have a general idea of why abd when the site has been built. Get into the museum, here comes the highlights of this trip. We will cover all three pits, but spend more time in Pit 1 and Pit 2. We will discuss about why the army is formed this way, why every soldier looks different, what's each warrior's role in this formation, and how they fight with ancient weapons. Besides the warriors, we will also take a look at the terracotta musicians, acrobats, and concubines that have been recently excavated. After the detailed visit to this museum, we will also take bus and come back to city. I'll bid you good bye and leave you to be.
