Overview of your Sydney tour

*Only available mid JUNE to mid OCTOBER* Step back in time! Journey to the late 1700s when the first Scottish settlers came to their new land "New Scotland" - Nova Scotia. Experience the Highland Village, where animators portray life of the Scots who settled here. The village is a true replica circa 1700 with a working Forge and historic Church. Lots to experience and plenty of picture opportunities. Following along some of the same trails that our Scottish forefathers traveled as they settled in Nova Scotia. Cape Breton is embedded in rich Scottish history from the 1700's to present day, that you will see the Gaelic language in full use during our journey. Thereafter, we will travel to St. Ann's Bay and visit the only Gaelic College in North America before finishing our tour along the World Famous Cabot Trail.

Your Sydney tour itinerary

Enhanced Your Experience: 6 hours (contact for details) Begin our day in the city of Sydney. We will travel the rural highways along the beautiful Bras d'Or Lake. Our first stop will be at The Highland Village museum. This is a living history museum and cultural centre that celebrates the Gaelic experience in Nova Scotia. On a 43 acre hillside overlooking the Bras d'Or Lake, Nova Scotia's rich Scottish Gaelic culture comes alive with costumed staff, farm animals and period buildings & artifacts. Next we will travel west through a First Nations community of Wagmatcook (Wag-ah-ma-took), stopping at the Cultural and Heritage Centre for lunch (own cost) before traveling to Baddeck for our second museum, Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site. From here we will be heading back to the Port of Sydney via Kelly's Mountain, stopping on the west and eastern sides of Kelly's Mountain for photo opportunities.
