Overview of your Sydney tour

Step back into 1744 while French soldiers march down the streets of the town. Cannon fire shakes the ground and muskets can be heard firing from the Soldier's Guard House.   Baking bread aromas drifting from the stone bakery.   Chat with fishermen, sailors and servants. Sip rum and watch lace-making as children play 300-year-old games and stew simmers on an open-hearth fire. It's so real, it seems surreal.  I am a great lover of this site and am very happy to explore with you. You may explore on your own, view daily demonstrations of music, dancing, cooking, military drills, and much more. The Sydney & Louisbourg Railway Museum is a great artifact of a former rail station that served the local area for passenger and cargo transport.   ​The Louisbourg Lighthouse is our final stop.   This location will give you amble opportunity to take some amazing photos.   If you decide, you can also explore the Louisbourg trail along the shoreline.

After having a bad bus tour here many years ago, we decided to do a private tour. Barbara was a great tour guide and so knowledgeable about the history of the area. It was obvious that she knew her way around the fortress and knew a lot about it. We saw and learned so much more than during our previous visit. Due to being able to see the animators without a big crowd of people around, I was able to get some great portrait photos of them. Highly recommend Barbara if the Fortress is of any interest to you.

Barbara Geddes, was our guide for a four-hour tour of Sydney, Nova Scotia, and the Louisburg Fortress. Unfortunately, hurricane Fiona arrived about three weeks before we did, but we kept an email correspondence with Barbara and thankfully it worked out beautifully, despite intervening closures. Barbara was on time, well prepared and conveyed the history of Nova Scotia. She gave us a guided tour of the Louisburg Fortress and its inhabitants. Given the chance we would book her services again.

Enhanced Your Experience: Early booking and we can ensure you get some extra experiences while on site at the Fortress of Louisbourg.   *Some experiences restricted to 19+. **Experiences may require additional time (Adjustments at time of booking - message guide to inquire about price) Starting in the city of Sydney, we will drive east to the town of Louisbourg. The modern town of Louisbourg is vibrant with local and commercial fishing. Passing through the modern town, we arrive at the Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site, an 18th century fortress brought to life with costumed animators. Touring the Fortress site requires walking, be prepared with comfortable shoes. The weather along the North Atlantic Ocean can be unpredictable, be prepared with a jacket and/or sweater (even if it seems quite warm in the city), bring a hat and mitts!
