In Kaikoura the tour includes a 3. 5 hour Whale Watch Kaikoura boat trip out into the Pacific Ocean to look for these giant creatures (and other sea life). This world-famous trip uses large, stable modern aluminium catamarans for their speed and safety. The guides are very experienced and provide a huge amount of information on the whale habitat and how they can be watched in their own environment. The business is owned and run by Ngai Tahu- the South Island Maori tribe- and is an excellent example of how indigenous people, business and tourism can work together. successfully. . . . . they have been running these tours since the 1990's.

Arriving Kaikoura at 12 PM we explore the area and sail on the Whale Watch Kaikoura catamaran. . . . as well as whales dolphins, albatrosses, seals etc. are often seen. Whale species encountered in the past include orcas, pilot whales, blue whale and many others.
