Hello, I'm Gary and I guide tours--by land and sea--in my hometown of Sitka, Alaska. I'm a born and raised Sitkan and proud of it. I feel really lucky that I get to show Sitka off to visitors from all over the world. Sitka is one of the most epic places on the planet. It's wild and pristine and so very scenic. We have mountains and ocean and lots of wildlife. My family's been here for 4 generations so my roots go deep on this island. I've spent my entire life exploring our waters and honing my inner "wildlife radar" so if you'd like to see whales and sea otters and sea lions and all the wondrous creatures that live here too, I'm the guide for you. I've been guiding visitors to Sitka since 1994. Like many of us who grew up here, I started out working on commercial fishing boats. My first experiences out on our waters were actually with my Grandma Susie, who was quite the pioneering Alaskan fisherwoman. I then went on to guide fishing charters until I found my real passion: Whale watching and eco-tours. I love the natural world and marveling at its creatures and getting to share that with other people just makes the experience that much more epic. You could say my life motto is "livin' the dream, sharing the adventure. " In 2016 I had the opportunity to purchase my own boat, the M/V Blue Dawg, and venture out on my own. Being the 'captain of my own ship' has allowed me to create the customized tour experience for my guests that I can truly get excited about. Well, the name says it all. This tour combines my two tours--marine and land--to give you an experience of the best Sitka has to offer during your day here. It's the tour I'd give to my own friends and family who come for a visit. It's 5hrs in all, with half that time spent on the boat exploring Sitka Sound, it's many islets and abundant wildlife and the other half, visiting Sitka's most popular attractions, including our beloved rescued bears and raptors and Sitka's beautiful national historical park, "Totem Park. " The thing I love about this tour is that although you can explore Sitka for a lifetime, in 5hrs I can give you a best-of, once-in-a-lifetime kind of adventure. So if you plan on being here once in your life (but don't worry, I won't hold you to that) this is the tour for you.

Designed to make the most of your time in Sitka! You'll see all the best stuff by land: - Fortress of the Bear - Raptor Center - Totem Park - Downtown And then by Sea: - whales - sea lions - sea otters - puffins - the magic Sitka waterways - islets and inlets With the average cruise ship in port for 8-9hrs, you'll have plenty of time to take the tour plus a good buffer before you have to get back on the ship. If your cruise ship schedule permits, you'll get a 1hr lunch break in downtown Sitka to grab a bite, and of course, I am happy to recommend our favorite places. Marine Tour: We'll be adventuring aboard the passenger vessels Morning Glory my 37 ft. Custom wildlife tour boat. It's the ideal vessel for exploring Southeast Alaskan waters with a heated cabin, big windows ideal for sightseeing and wildlife viewing and aft and bow decks that are great for photography and taking in the epic surroundings. Land Tour: The land portion of the tour is given in our comfortable, 14 passenger Ford van. There'll be 3 stops at attractions and a few stops at photo-op points along the way.
