Hello and welcome to the Heart of England region. After a career in fashion manufacturing I qualified as a Blue Badge Tour Guide in 2001. Since then I have specialised in providing personalised, private tours of Birmingham and surrounding region. I love to share my enthusiasm with visitors from UK and abroad. As a 'born and bred Brummie', I have seen many changes to Birmingham over the last 25 years; from a city with a reputation for heavy industry Birmingham has become a highly regarded centre of excellence in all areas of business and culture. A wide variety of restaurants, great shopping, museums and galleries plus numerous local attractions make Birmingham a popular tourist destination with leisure and business visitors alike. Just a forty minute drive from Birmingham city centre are the famous 'Shakespeare Country' towns of Stratford upon Avon and Warwick with the Cotswold hills beyond. Whatever your reason for visiting and however much or little time you have to spare, I would be delighted to tailor a walking and/or driving tour that will help you discover the hidden. . . Heart of England. Hope to see you soon. Famous around the world as the birthplace of the playwright William Shakespeare, this delightful and vibrant riverside town is the setting for our morning walk exploring the life and times of William, his family, friends, and associates. From the birthplace, we take a gentle stroll beside the river and through the streets that were familiar to William Shakespeare. Along the way we see where he went to school, the site of the house that he retired to on his return from London - and his final resting place in the Parish Church. From here we drive to the outlying villages of Shottery to visit Anne Hathaway's Cottage (childhood home of William's mother and Wilmcote where we stop to view the outside of Mary Arden's Farmhouse (childhood home of William's mother).
Meet at the agreed Stratford upon Avon town centre location or at Warwick Parkway Station Walk to and visit Shakespeare's Birthplace We cross the ancient footbridge that he would have known on his journeys to and from London. Stop at the Shakespeare Memorial theatre to hear how the annual Shakespeare Festival began. Visit the Parish Church to see the family graves. Walk to Dr. John Halls's house, the home of William's eldest daughter. Stop at King Edward's school (Visit school if time allows) Continue to New Place and stop at the site of William's last home. Exploring the side streets we can make time for refreshments during or after the tour, which ends at agreed Stratford upon Avon town centre location or local railway station. Drive to and visit Anne Hathaway's Cottage (Childhood home of Willliam's wife Anne Hathaway) in the village of Shottery. Drive to and stop by Mary Arden's farmhouse (Childhood home of William's mother, Mary Arden). Return to Stratford upon Avon or local railway station.
